One of the many Rollerdromes in Kentucky but this one was its own-- Champ's Highview Rollerdrome 7711 Beulah Church Road, Louisville, Kentucky. This rink was built in 1976 and opened as well but they closed some time ago though. I have no date of closure.
June 30, 1976 was the date of registration. Likely opened that summer by Armand P Champa of the Champ's Rollerdromes group.
Likely they closed in the end of the year 1987 because they sold the building on December 29, 1987. It ran only 11.5 years. With this rink, it should have kept operational. Real neat design.
The Interior.
N/A.
The Exterior.
Free-Span Steel Truss Cinderblocks/Veneer Stone Wall/Steel-Walled Rink - like Building with Gable roof. It was unique in style because it showed true décor on a skating rink which is kind of rare today. Back then, they had built the rink in Cinderblocks on all "4 walls" but the front they added a stone veneer. Above that, they had Steel sheet metals covering.
This rink building was 24,069 Square Feet which was rather, pretty large. Usually a Champ's Rollerdrome would normally have a large rink to operate.
I love the 1970s style wall in front. The way the twin smaller canopies on front that sort of parallel with the main larger Gable roofline. This style is similar to other Champ's skating rinks. Depends on which one you are talking about as well.
I love the style but that is too bad it was built behind another building that you almost cannot see from the road. It still exist today with that frontage but it is now a union hall for a unionized workers group.
It is very similar to the other Champ's Rollerdrome. The Manslick location.
