RINK ALIVE
Rink Alive means that. It means rinks I visit starting with 2019 and beyond and how I feel about each rink. Like a food critic or a movie critic. Usually secretive as a regular skater because I do not want special treatment from owners and management to try to hide their faults and weakness. This is to see the reality of their operations and how the facility look.
I would inspect rinks and make report here, in Facebook, and other social media that will be grading them. It is a Ten-Point System with ten being the highest/perfect score. with zero the worst possible. Yelp fails to have a system with zero points. This is where I will make it better. Zero to Ten.
Each points bring to each section of scoring. There is zero to ten for each category. For example, maybe cleanness gets 8 points, attitude of staff is 5, etc. Then I bright total score and divide into tens. And they are:
Appearance of facility --overall of facility both interior and exterior
Exterior appearance -- only exterior how it appear. the building, the parking lot, landscaping, etc.
Interior appearance -- the interior such as carpeting, roller floor, murals (if any), colors, lighting, etc.
Safety outside -- does it have enough parking lot lights at night? Security cameras?
Security staff -- Do they do a TSA style check each skater? Inspect skates? How they behave?
Clear safety rules and in-house rules sign(s) -- Clear and easy to see before admission for all skaters to obey the rules.
Smoking/Drinking environment -- Allow smoking? Ban smoking? Drinking (some rinks have bars!)
Cleanness -- clean facility, even with that skate rink smell or trash smell. Do they?
Freshness -- like cleanness but do they have any scents, freshers, etc.
Skate Rental -- Do they spray skates before/after skaters?
Friendly Admission staff -- Do they smile? Friendliness? Hand change proper?
Friendly staff (rental and snack bar) -- Nice, smile, friendly?
Uniqueness -- Original appearance, differences.
Bathroom -- Accessible? Neat? Clean? Needs repairs or replace bathrooms?
Cost -- Affordable? Proper cost for area?
Music -- Since I am Deaf, there is no way I can hear if it is good however, I will ask around and ask skaters what kind of music and if any dirty words are heard. If so, it WILL be zero, no exceptions!
Availability -- Schedule. Open alot or not?
Advertising -- Good advertising? Website? Social media?
Size -- Size of facility. Roomy?
Size of Rink and floor. Rink size. Narrow, small, big, or what? Care? Polish? Coated? Scratches?
Food -- Good food? Variety of food? Warm? Cost?
Communication -- Since I am Deaf, are they face me to talk? Clearness in loud places? Enough light to see?
Floor Guard Behavior -- Are they friendly? Are they doing their job or they just wanted to skate for free? Are they licensed or certified with first aid, CPR, etc?
Accessibility -- Is the building up to code for Americans with Disabilities Act? This includes ramp to the main door, bathrooms with such accessibility including bars and spacious slot in the bathroom, allowing wheel chairs on the rink, and even Skate Mates ("walkers").
There are 24 areas to investigate and inspect those rinks. I go to rinks and write a report on my clipboard and will report on here and in social media about my visitation of those rinks. I total and divide the score.
There will be photos too to show their flaws. And explanation what they need to improve. And suggestions. For food and building codes, they have their own health department and building codes to inspect and they will be ordered to correct but that part I do not do that BUT often more than not, inspectors and enforcers do bypass because they are not doing their jobs or feel sorry for the rink operators. But what about the customers feel? Check them out on Yelp and you will see photos of rinks that have terrible attitudes, bad food, broken things in bathroom, etc.
For new rinks, I am willing to attend if owners wanted to impress and give good report, I would be honored to attend and give a good report if it meets good scoring or if they want to improve before opening with my consultation, I would be glad to do so and make report on all social media. And they can get their score rating on their websites/social media similar to what AAA, BBB, Trip Advisor, and Yelp would do. Same with any current rinks. They would receive wheels like what AAA has for stars and Mobil did with diamonds.
If you want me to come and inspect your facility, please contact me at [email protected] and we can make an arrangement for me to come. Let's discuss this further for a discussion for a fee and expenses.
Skaters, you can invite me to come if you want your favorite rink to be inspected. Please do contact me and discuss and make arrangement for me to come.
I can do this anywhere in the world. I will need at least three months advance for international planning. One month advance in the US.
See Rink page for the information and evaluation. Each Star here represents to the nearest zero of their overall total score between one and ten. Zero is the least/worst and the ten is highest/best.
