Skate-N-Place, 2102 West Genesee Street., Westvale Plaza, Syracuse, NY 13219
Skate-N-Place was a roller rink that was set up toward the back side of the Westvale Plaza. Westvale Plaza had two strips. The main one was facing the West Genesee Street, the other facing the main plaza. The other strip that was facing the main complex was where the rink was located. It was rather small rink made of wood and narrow. It was quite narrow. This rink was rather white walls, and simple rink. This rink opened up immediately after the Camillus Plaza roller rink closed. It was a good replacement however, they did not stay there very long and as I recalled they relocated to Green Hills Plaza in Nedrow which is the South side of Syracuse. Westvale Plaza was on the West side of Syracuse. Quite a relocation move and demographically too because of the immediate area of skaters. To see the Nedrow version, go to Skate-N-Place in Nedrow page for continuation of its history. Not much history to note here or that Nedrow rink either.
It was established by two speed skating families and they felt they need to open this rink because of Maxi's closed down in Camillus Plaza which was just down the road on West Genesee Street, West of Syracuse. They needed a rink to have their speed skating team (opinion).
I skated there once because of its location and where I live which was closer go to Sports-O-Rama roller rink in Mattydale an easier direction to and the rink size as well. Skate-N-Place had quite narrow rink. The same problem they had with the Nedrow location as well.
