Maxi's Roller Rink, Camillus Plaza, West Genesee Street, Camillus, NY
Maxi's Roller Rink was short lived. It was open around 1981 to 1983. It was located in Camillus Mall plaza section where P & C was located. It was a standard size roller rink that had red color themed interior. Beautifully clean that you can smell the red carpet on the wall.
The lay out was that when you enter, you pay admission, then walk against the wall up front then against the left side wall with rink to your rink, then walk toward the rear where the snack bar and skate rental was located. The tables and chairs were located there as well. You would sit at a booth and watch skaters. It was bit darker red hue, not maroon carpet with black top part of the wall. Because of this, it was rather dark at the rink side but bright enough to see with full tube light panels on the ceiling.
The rails were red carpeted as well. In my opinion, this was the most beautiful rink in Central New York. Its survival did not last at all. UPDATE: When Maxi's closed, 2 families of speed skaters decided to open a new rink in Westvale, they decided to call it Skate-N-Place which later relocated to Nedrow. See those profiles. Mrs. Gratien managed those rinks.
Any photographs would be appreciated. Remember those days no cell phones so no one took pictures of it. It had a very brief run in that plaza and no major history. No information regarding the rink in the Camillus Plaza (Mall) from deadmalls.com website. It was like it came and went quickly. More information will be added later. (December 25, 2018). Photos unavailable at the moment.
