I never seen a rink that had such mirror ball in the eating area. I think this was taken before they refinished the rink floor because the floor shown in Ice White. Source: Google.
Atlantis Skateway 3100 Jog Rd, Greenacres, FL. Yes, that Disco Ball and Starburst Lights in the Eating area. Noticed the floor? It was Terrazzo, Not carpeted. Good because of spills skaters especially young ones and unexperienced skaters carry their sodas to the table. Second of all, easier to mop the floor or have a rolling washer machine. Source: Google.
Atlantis Skateway 3100 Jog Rd, Greenacres, FL. Noticed the floor? It was Terrazzo, Not carpeted. Good because of spills skaters especially young ones and unexperienced skaters carry their sodas to the table. More on that in previous photo. There were a good number of games. Noticed VIP in Red? Must be an area only for VIP. Like night clubs have an area for VIP, this is perhaps where the birthday parties and other private parties would be. I missed my chance seeing this rink when I was in West Palm Beach for a conference in June 2021. And lived in Miami for 8 months in 2002. However, I have been to the Leve(backward L) (defunct night club) and they had VIPs booths and the management established an VIP area for us because I was moving back to Syracuse, NY after having to break up with the woman I loved at the time who is from Miami. It was nice of them to let us celebrate in private area. We saw a couple of celebrities there that night. My new friends at the time told me that many clubs and places in South Florida have many VIP booths. I recalled that vividly what they told me. Thanks Pablo, TJ, and a few other guys for memorable night at the LeveL! Source: Google.

Atlantis Skateway 3100 Jog Rd, Greenacres, FL
Atlantis Skateway 3100 Jog Road, Greenacres, Florida was operational for more than 40 years and they closed the rink on 30 August 2022. In fact, they closed just 24 hours ago. This is 21 of August 2022. The Carnell Family operated this rink in its entire time.
It began with Morris Hankey who was Britni Murphy's grandfather, opened Atlantis Skateway after he build a several roller rinks and bowling alleys along the East Coast from Pennsylvania and New York all the way down to Miami, Florida. He chose Greenacres because he felt there weren't enough activities in the area for children and teens.
Then it was Norman G Carnell and his wife operated the rink.
They operated for 47 years. They could have waited another three years to make a big 50th. The rink was sold to an Ukrainian hockey family. That family has the father who is a retired professional hockey player and the son is a professional hockey player currently. Pray for that family since some of their family members are fighting this unnecessary war caused by the Russians. The California Based Ukrainian family operated Lodnia Group LLC, managed by Konstantin and Irina Lodnia, was registered in Florida Department of State records in late May and signed a deed for the rink 17 June 2022. They purchased the rink for a pricy 3.6 Million US Dollars. The new owners wanted to move from California to Florida. If that so, likely the rink will become ice.
Britni Murphy whose grandfather started the rink said that liability insurance and taxes were getting too expensive to operate and keep admission and prices reasonable for families. Pandemic closures didn't help.
The name, Atlantis for this rink was fitting in South Florida due to the theme of the Atlantis (Ancient Theorists thought that the Bahamas was a possible Atlantis). The Atlantis was a legendary city that was only found as a fiction written by Ancient Author Plato who wrote three book series connecting to the Atlantis in his books, Timaeus and Critias,
Theorists claimed they discovered this or that locations of the Atlantis. Some think it was in Greece,, Shoreline of Spain, in middle of Atlantic Ocean, The Bahamas, or even where Indonesia is today and even land mass between Europe and United Kingdom called Dogger Littoral or Doggerland. Only proven for real is Doggerland.
Ok, back to this, this name and theme colors were perfect for the Sunshine State that Florida had those famed Art Deco/1950s/Miami Vice colors of usually Pink, Baby Pink, Baby Blue, Seafoam Green, Teal, in those colors. You remember Miami Vice colors? This exterior was truly connect to the South Florida Miami Vice color category. See exterior for more description.
I do not know their old logo but the logo they had by their 40th anniversary showed skate wheels seemly to be on motion going from left to right and has the name in more plain font. Was it Ariel? Something like that.
But the most recent was truly flowing as it was like Superman or Indiana Jones logo would with larger fonts as it gets narrower toward the end. One of the most unique and beautiful logo I ever seen.
The family put it up for sale on 08 February 2021 so it was on the market for a long time. Roller rink operators had a chance for the whole year plus to purchase it. Unfortunately they did not.
It was sold on 17 June 2022. And closed on Saturday 20 August 2022. In February 1994, it was sold for 125,000 USD. Clearly it was sold to the next generation of family that year. Huge differences on the value of the property.
Attempt to contact the family with questions at this time of writing.
The Interior.
They had beautiful Concrete floor but they changed colors especially in 2010s from Ice White to Facebook Blue if I want to call that. Looked Royal Blue though. Then they painted a Black Stadium geometric shape in the middle of the floor. Then add the Checkers very similar to Stardust Skate Center in Tampa I believe (that one is closed too). Yes, it was according to that page.
Of course, with the blue--supposedly as ocean because of the relations to the lost Atlantis.
The Exterior.
You remember Miami Vice colors? This exterior was truly connect to the South Florida Miami Vice color category. It had Seafoam Green and Khaki stripes on the street front wall. Their logo display on the wall. I love the logo of the Atlantis. Very unique and good logo to be displayed on the wall both outside and inside. It was a Free-Span Steel Trusses Steel - Walled Arena/Warehouse - like Building with Gabled Roof.

Operated: (Overall)-- 1975 to Saturday 20 August 2022. (they had to close earlier than scheduled at 11 pm due to overcrowding and other safety reasons because of the news spread that they were closing and it was getting out of control. This occurred similar to another rink that also happened to be in Florida and its last day of operations which forced people out for safety reasons).
Reason for Closure: Liability insurance and taxes were getting too expensive to operate and keep admission and prices reasonable for families. Pandemic closures didn't help.

Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former.
