Wheels Plus 321 Charger Street, Revere, MA Now as a Gym and Fitness center. This building looked rather large in size because of side extension that would have made Riverdale Roller World jealous in size. Never related. Always as a golden rule for a truss is 85 feet. Now, this showed it was more than 85 feet wide! Courtesy of Google Maps.
Wheels Plus 321 Charger Street, Revere, MA. Courtesy of Wheels Plus Roller Rink Facebook page. The typical 1970s/80s look. Concrete floor, mirrored balls, starburst lights, and red wall seen on the right. Sorry for poor quality.
Wheels Plus 321 Charger Street, Revere, MA. Newspaper unknown as it was shown on the Wheels Plus Facebook fan page. Published on June 18, 2020 but explained the article that 40 years prior on June 18, 1980, the City Council gave approval for a Rink to be opened at the former Skaters World spot. Dang, that night also the Boston Celtics wanted a new arena there! Courtesy of Wheels Plus Facebook Group.
As seen on the Wheels Plus Facebook group page, no credits on newspaper yet. And no page 14 either! I will search another time for name and page as I ask around in that group. The newspaper article was published in 1981 as they stated the Wheels Plus was opened a year prior. Courtesy of Wheels Plus.

Wheels Plus 321 Charger Street, Revere, MA. This is bit unusual for a rink to do so.. A button to state as a staff? Normally T-shirts, Golf shirts, whatever uniform but a button? Interesting. Courtesy of Wheels Plus Facebook Group.

Wheels Plus 321 Charger Street, Revere, MA. Several wonderful merchandise to remember the rink. Token, button, and key chain and of course bumper sticker in that order. Only the Bumper sticker was adjusted for colorization and clarification. The sticker color degraded usually Red fade quickest of all colors but Blue was off too. All fixed. Wheels Plus 321 Charger Street, Revere, MA. Their schedule made by Jay Kay. Very comic book feel to this. Early 1980s. They had 21 sessions weekly at the time. Not many rinks do this many anymore. Courtesy of Wheels Plus Facebook Group.

Wheels Plus 321 Charger Street, Revere, MA
Someone started Skaters World according to Bizapedia in 1973 but the building was built in 1975. There was a reason for that cause perhaps delays on financing or get approval from the town to allow construction and built of the rink.
UPDATE! -- 20 September 2022.
I received an email stating that it was a TWIN ICE rinks before it was converted to roller rink. And the name change too.
Later, in 1980, it became Wheels Plus roller rink which was on 321 Charger Street, Revere, Massachusetts housed in a rink building that looked very familiar! It was in a building that was similar to another rink in the same state. Was this a copy cat? Yes, there is a saying, "The amateurs create but the professionals steal it." Happen all the time. Look at the automobiles -- any decade, televisions especially after 1995 with those black frame wide screen TVs, telephones especially cell phones, Hearing aids especially the behind the ears, and laptops and keyboards. Come on. That is ridiculous.
Unless this was a sister rink to another rink. (I am trying to think which rink that has that design. I just did it few days ago! Hahaha. Ah, yes, Riverdale Roller World had that building look with Steel sheet metal walled warehouse like with Gable roof and that 1950s look canopy that is a zigzag form. Check that rink out in Riverdale Roller World here.
Someone said in Wheels Plus fan page on Facebook that there was a sister rink was in Commack, New York that it was better known as Commack Roller Rink and Laces there next to the original home of the Brooklyn Nets basketball. However, when I did that rink profile in 2018, there was no information that it was called Wheels Plus until I did look up the photo album for Wheels Plus in Massachusetts. That raised questions. Looks like I have to join the group and ask!
Another skater confirmed on Facebook that the sister rink was at Commack Roller Rink. So, apparently it was at one time. I will be updating that after this one.
Since the building was built in 1975 and the doors for Wheels Plus was opened in 1980, was there a Riverdale Roller World in that time period between 1975 and 1980? It was possible. Anyone know? If it was, then it would make logical sense that the architecture was basically the same for the other Riverdale Roller Rink in the same state! I think I found the answer. It was Skaters World. That rink was established by registered in May 8, 1972 but apparently did not open till 1975. It ran for 5 years. I believe it took a lot of effort to pass town approval to get the rink built there.
Irving Schneider and Herbert Weiss founded Wheels Plus. Oddly, the name of the company originally was called Revere Roller Rink, Inc. Was this truly the name of the rink before changed to Wheels Plus? Both men were from Brooklyn, NY which made sense for the Wheels Plus in Commack Roller Rink.
The Interior.
As from Skaters World, I do not know what the look inside was like but as Wheels Plus, they had two Starbursts lights on the ceiling with Disco ball, a tradition back in the 70s/80s with that look.
UPDATE! -- 20 September 2022.
Was a twin Ice Rink before conversion to Roller Rink.
Considering the size of the facility at over 63,000 Square Feet, it was room enough for two ice rink they had but now singular roller rink and plenty of room. However, it is now a gym.
UPDATE! -- 02 June 2023.
The roller rink was Sky Blue 6 Coated Epoxy covering the Concrete floor. The skating rink was 13,000 Square Feet. That would be smaller than standard NHL rink size of 85 by 200 in feet. (NHL rink is 17,000 Square Feet). So, that makes it smaller rink.
It had 16 speakers to amp the music inside the building. They also had a dance floor.
The Exterior.
Free-Span Steel Truss Steel and Cinderblocks-Walled Warehouse - like Building with Gable roof. The building is quite similar to Riverdale Roller World with similar construction features and canopy. May have been a sister rink but I doubt it although Wheels Plus's sister rink was in Commack, New York, the Commack Roller Rink and Laces were housed in same place as Wheels Plus there in Long Island area.
Currently as Gym & Fitness Center which is up for sale at the moment. The 63,179 Square Feet facility may have been smaller when it was a skating rink but add on. I am not sure. Was it? Because rarely a skating rink would have this size of over 60 thousand square feet to be this big rink. Nothing it says it was largest in state or region or whatever.
It had Cinderblocks up to front door height then above that, all Steel Sheet metal for walls. Same height and size as Riverdale Roller World. I believe the next tenant may have added more size. Not sure.

For abandoned rinks, after you receive permission, do WEAR safety OSHA equipment including a safety glasses, pair of safety gloves, an orange vest or a jacket, and a construction helmet.
Thank you for understanding.
Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. I provide what information from other websites, skaters, and operators and it may end up with different results between two (or more) sources. It is not our responsible for errors we caused. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
