Twin Pines Roller Rink 9008 Mclaurin St, Bay Saint Louis, MS
Twin Pines Roller Rink was located at 9008 Mclaurin Street, Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi. It was one of hundreds if not, thousands of businesses damaged by the Hurricane Katrina which occurred in August 2005. Over 1,800 deaths occurred there in the path of Katrina.
The location was quite close to the Gulf of Mexico where the category 5 hurricane slammed New Orleans and surrounding area. The hurricane disrupted the Twin Pines Roller Rink which put them out of business and sat empty until March 2014 a man from New York State, a developer bought the place to fix it up which would have been Paterson's Entertainment Hall but apparently from searching, nothing. Something must have happened to that location. That entertainment venue is named after himself, Richard Paterson. Unfortunately it is closed. Google Map showed it was empty and for sale in 2013.
Anyone know what happened to that venue that Paterson purchased and supposedly to built? Unfortunately, something must have happened to it that it never came out as an entertainment center.
Since the building was built in 1971, was the rink opened at the time? I do not know. Anyone know more about it? Please let me know.
Since Hurricane Katrina was in 2005, they finally listed in 2009 and apparently sold in 2014. Apparently no one wanted to buy it till that gentleman from New York State. But what happened to his dreams?
UPDATE! --
I have more information thanks to the email from someone who worked there at one time and had connections to the owner/operator of this rink. Here is what she has to say--
Hi I came across your website and figured I send you what I know about Twin Pine Roller Rink in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. It opened in 1976 according to someone close to the owner. My dad worked there sometime after 1985 and my brother and I had many birthday parties there. In 2004 I started working there and I worked there till Hurricane Katrina hit. At that time it flooded and was closed for good. The owner and her husband drowned during Hurricane Katrina and their daughters decided to [sell] the skating rink. The garage door was put in after it was sold. [This is why I saw the garage door in Google Maps] Also in one of your paragraphs you wrote the sign says Twin Peaks but its Twin Pines.
Oh man! Sorry to hear about the owners died during Katrina. Sad about them drowned. This page is dedicated to the owners. The couple who owned the rink was Johanna Renac and Ralph Joseph Dagnall.
The Interior.
N/A.
The Exterior.
It is a Free-Span Steel Trusses Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building with Gable roof. It even has a garage door on the front side. Was that installed after the hurricane? This whole place may have had a rebuilt because I do not know if it has this much damages. Any one know and have photographs?
The interesting part is that all Steel walls but there were two stripes on one side of the wall. Making it very unique. It had 1980s popular colors of Tan, Dark Blood Red and Emerald Green. The new owner did not have it repainted but the sign was removed.
Later he closed up shop and a huge sheet metal covered up the garage door. The sign Twin Pines (corrected) are gone. Each generation of photos, little by little it was disappearing.
