Spin City USA Skate Center 2891 Parkway, Pigeon Forge, TN
This rink was the third known roller rink in the mountain city resort tourism area full of too many go-kart tracks (over 18 of them!) Also more than 4 Mini-Golf courses in this small town population of 6,300 people living there. They are the Go-Kart and Mini-Golf Capital of the World. Because of this, people come into town to do some fun and do recreational activities over the summer. They have everything today but not a roller rink. That is sad. This last rink in town closed in 2011ish. No one wants to skate during summer indoors while there are other activities outside. Enjoy the mountains, hiking, and a whole bunch of Go-Karts tracks to go to. It would be excellent for a Go-Kart World Championship to be held there because one day they race at a track and next day another round robin at another track. Things like that.
Anyway, Spin City USA Skate Center was in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on 2891 Parkway which is along all the entertainment including.. of course, all the Go-Karts tracks and hotels as well as miniature golf courses.
It was opened in 2008 and closed in 2011ish.. maybe 2010. Short lived just like the other two rinks in the same town from 1979 to 1987 (two rinks at same spot, new owner in 1982). So the town was without a rink between 1987 and 2008 and again after 2011 and on.
The next business after the rink closed for good, it became Pure Energy Teen Night Club. After it closed in a year, it became a long time standing Blake Jones Go-Karts. Apparently the interior of that building is closed and empty. Perhaps for office and parts for the Go-karts and put Karts away for the winter.
That outdoor track looked awfully tight and bit too steep. Where are the safety? I noticed many tracks are like that in this town. Not like any Go-Karts I have been to in NYS and Florida. No ramps, no heights. All flats.
The Interior.
Said to have wooden floor. Then likely it was Maple floor.
The Exterior.
Hard to say what it looked like when it was Spin City. But it did clearly showed the rink was upstairs on second floor and you had to climb stairs to reach second floor, no elevators to be seen. Likely not have any elevators (ADA violations? Possible violations). It does reminded me of the XZFR Skating Rink at Disney world that you have to climb long stair up to the second floor. It was truly high up.
The original colors are unknown but for the next business, they made more of a fun look. Then further more with the next business.
They have an "indoor" track under the rink and the outdoors with different ramps and height for a tight spot.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: N/A. Floor Layout: N/A.
Building Size: N/A. Built: N/A. Demolished: N/A.
Type of Building: Free-Span Steel (?) Truss Wood or Aluminum - Walled raised complex Building.
Roof: Flat.
Acres: N/A.
Operated: (Overall)-- 2008 to 2011.
Reason for Closure: (my opinion) lack of interest in roller skating because this is a summer outdoor attraction town as the rink was indoor. One of the commenters in Trip Advisor said in 2009, hardly anyone at the rink, maybe a dozen people overall there including herself and her child and 10 teenagers there.
Wanted: Information regarding exact dates of open/closed, why closed, size of rink, rink materials. Also photos. Anyone knows or have photos, please let me know by emailing at [email protected]. Thank you.
