Skateland of Allentown / C.C. Skate Ranch / Dar-Bri 1605 Ramer Rd., Emmaus, PA. True Full advertisement RESTORED. This was one of the most creative advertisement I ever seen for its time since it had the circles. I believe it was supposed to be a skate wheel but with trends that are similar to automotive tires! Very interesting I believe this broke the traditionist spectrum that normally requires all framed square or vertically or even horizontally framed. The circle really can catch newspaper readers to see the ad rather than ignoring it. This subject should be discussed in Graphic Art 101 in colleges and vocational schools. Skateland of Allentown, C.C. Skate Ranch, and Dar-Bri Roller Skating Center roller rinks were at 1605 Ramer Road, Emmaus, Pennsylvania. First came was Skateland of Allentown followed by C.C. Skate Ranch then Dar-Bri Roller Skating Center and then no more.
Before you check Google map yourself, the address number was changed from 1605 to 4281 Ramer Rd, Emmaus, PA. It is currently R L Reppert, Inc. after the rink closed for good.
Each name of the rink was because it was owned by different operators.
Skateland of Allentown: This rink was owned and operated by Darlene R. and Robert A. Reichard Jr. as well as Roger L. Steinmayr. I do not know why they kept this rink for a brief time and sold it? What was happening at the time? The evident was clear with the next operator who had it for brief time as well. Both owned briefly.
C.C. Skate Ranch: Bill Clark and Harold Christman owned this rink as well as several other rinks including one in Line Lex, Pennsylvania called CC&M Ranch, and the other-- CC Skate Ranch in Douglassville, Pennsylvania. (Will make profile after this one). Brief owned and wonder why like that. There was an article that they said the declining of skating in the 1970s because of Disco. Really? Disco made the rinks popular, buddies! It was Disco's death in 1980 that caused many rinks in early 1980s declined and shut down for good before that Great Insurance Killer of 1980s that killed off many rinks. Check 4000 plus rinks here and you will find that same result I just mentioned. For this specific rink, the evident showed all three were bit short lived especially Skateland of Allentown and this one. Why? I believe it could be location or could be not the right demographics for that area. It is like putting a roller rink in a gated retirement community in Florida which is not demographically correct largely due to many seniors are over 65 and prefer to sit by their pool and for some, go golfing which is more relaxing than getting on wheels. They prefer the golf carts. OK, I made my point. I think it has to do with location. Or third reason-- both management could not keep it up well. Like a bad baseball manager can ruin a team unless they hire a better manager to coach and manage a team into a winning team. This might be most logical reason. DISCLAIMER - my humble opinion.
Dar-Bri Roller Skating Center: This rink was owned and operated by the Portmans - Horace R. and Ruth E. Portman. They operated it the longest. Interesting why they named it Dar-Bri. The couple renovated by putting up the panels on the walls. they also built the area on the rink floor in the corner for the organ. The rest of the interior remained the same.
The personal apartment was where you walked in. The skate room and rest rooms were down the back of the rink and seating was in between eating area, along Half-wall all the way to skate room. The other thing they did was to change tables to keep up with the style at the time.
In January 1987, they had an auction to sell off everything as the owner wanted retirement. He did not sell the rink business.
Now it is a business, R L Reppert, Inc.
The Interior.
Skateland of Allentown: The wooden floor covered pretty much even beyond the rink. No Half-Wall(s) yet. One area had a stage for the Hammond Organ located. This was perhaps one of the last rinks to add organ and it was already Disco Era of 1965 to 1980.
C.C. Skate Ranch: Same as Skateland of Allentown.
Dar-Bri Roller Skating Center: The walls were Dark Stained Wall paneling that was popular throughout 1950s to say 1970s. Only darker in 1980s if kept it. I recalled at our home that we had those paneling and I told my mom to stain them darker and it goes with the 80s. So, she did and oh I would never forget her being so exciting! I loved those walls we had in this room with those panels we stained. It worked if you take good care of it and update it. I would still use them today and stain them. I love the look.
It was the owners/operators, the Portmans put those panels up and took out the stage where the organ played. They were modernizing the interior.
Anyway, one area in the corner was a stage that was replaced with a Half-Wall made of Cinderblocks.
They built in the corner on the rink floor for the Hammond Organ. The rest of the interior remained the same.
The personal apartment was where you walked in. The skate room and rest rooms were down the back of the rink and seating was in between eating area, along Half-wall all the way to skate room. The other thing they did was to change tables to keep up with the style at the time.
For all three rinks- The floor was Non-Painted, Polyurethane Coated Hardwood Maple to skate upon. The layout was Straight. The Half-Wall was added to separate on and off the rink floor.
The Exterior.
Skateland of Allentown: It is a Free-Span Steel Trusses Cinderblocks - Walled Warehouse - like Building with Gabled Roof. However, original color(s) on the wall and the appearance is unknown because the building contractor owns the place now and has very modern frontage so it is all lost.. for now.

Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. I provide what information from other websites, skaters, and operators and it may end up with different results between two (or more) sources. It is not our responsible for errors we caused. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
