Skateland Gympie Shed 2/1 Pinewood Ave, Gympie Queensland
Skateland Gympie Shed 2/1 Pinewood Ave, Gympie Queensland is in Australia and they are closing as late as September 2023 due to the current lease will run out due to a situation between landlord and the council which according to Dee, the Owner and Operator of the skating rink, Skateland Gympie, "Local council compliance has been an impossible obstacle along the way with no resolution. Very disappointing & very costly financially & emotionally."
This forced Dee to close the rink between June and September 2023 when the lease runs out. Currently trying to save the business part by putting equipment and supplies stored away somewhere.
I totally gets it. Many rinks are having their leases expired on purposes by landlord for other reasons and making much difficult to operate a rink. One another similar example is Stardust 2 Skating Center in the United States.
Sounds like the council has passed an ordinance to make it difficult for Dee. I wonder what. She cannot say. The article I found online could not read due to a paywall but the Facebook I can read clearly stated what she said. Hmm. Something she fought for two years to keep it operational. Now it's best to let the lease lapses.
As I said before in other profiles, best is to purchase rather than leasing although if leasing, you are out of trouble by law (depends on where you live), that you do not have to be sued if the building is leased. It would be on the landlord you would want to sue, not rink operator. That is how the law works. Well, for some areas. A rink operator from Georgia, USA told me about 3 or 4 years ago (Now its 2023), and said he found a loophole and it is leasing that can protect you from more damaging lawsuits. He got sued but he said he was free of that and it fell on the landlord of the building. The court decision explained that. Please check your rinks for details and find out from your town about regulations.
I am sorry you have to go through this mess, Dee. I pray nothing but the best for you and prayerfully you get a new location for your beautiful rink.
The Interior.
The interior was very plain but clean minimalist looking. It is a RollerCourt tiles layout for Roller Hockey and other Roller Sports to be involved.
Exposed Steel walled and trusses and beams and posts making it very much like a warehouse inside. It has that warehouse feel.
One another thing, at times Dee would set up Skate Park for skateboarders and skaters to skate on. The rink itself also had layout for Roller Hockey and other Roller Sports. This rink is very focused on Roller Sports. One thing though, no Roller Derby since I saw no lines.
The Exterior.
It is a twin-buildings that looks very much like warehouses next to each other. The address say "Shed 2" which referred to 2nd building of those two. They do look like supersized sheds. Very clean modern sheds. Sheds in 2020s are very popular now. Even people are living in sheds! I understand because of the economy here and everywhere are quite difficult these days.
It retains that Metel Silver look both inside and out.
It sits next to a large Caravan (RV) dealership. I see some real nice Caravans on Google Maps but I think there are not American or European brands. Caravans to me is my 2nd biggest hobby. I choose roller rinks to do history than RV because I met a nice couple who owns their own Caravans history site which is very detailed.
Now back to this. To access to this rink, you had to drive pass Shed 1 to go behind it and arrive around Shed 2. Yes, the front door is facing the Caravan dealership. I believe the landlord owns both Sheds 1 and 2.

Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. I provide what information from other websites, skaters, and operators and it may end up with different results between two (or more) sources. It is not our responsible for errors we caused. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
