Skate Plaza 1802 East Spruce Street, Garden City, KS. Former skating rink. This was remodeled for sure because of the windows. Source: Loop Net.
Skate Plaza 1802 East Spruce Street, Garden City, KS. Looks terrible there. Tall grass, not upkept with the parking lot. Did the ILC close this location for good before Google Mapper took this? Source: Google.

Also there is a website that list all the places where the phones used to be! I want to reveal more but due to safety, I will not explain what site I am talking about and the phone numbers on because those numbers are recycled to new owners. Did you noticed no zip codes and no phone numbers on any rinks in this site except for the old fashioned 4 digit numbers prior to standard 7 and 10 numbers today.
Because of its location as I can see on Google Map, the walking score depends on vehicle which is 43 points. Not that good. Right cross the street is fire training center with a building made for fire training and the building behind that training is their classroom and storage.
Pretty much a mix neighborhood. No real defined for this immediate area.
I do not know which came first, the Skate Plaza or the Skate Zone. Likely the Skate Plaza was first. They had their rink built in 1978 so they opened that year though. Closing? I could not find anything. Anybody?
After the final rink closed, it became something else then, an independent living center then it became National Guard Armory. According to Google Map, for the year 2012, it was an independent living center so likely they moved out. It was put up for sale in January 2005 and sold in October 2005.
Did the rink close in the 1990s? Or What?
UPDATE! -- (16 March 2022).
I just received an email today regarding this rink. L.W. send me an email regarding this rink. This is what she has to say. Very brief.
It was owned by Mr. Stilley - I think his name was Terrance. (Everett Lee Stilley, 19 Aug 1926 to 04 Dec 2007, age 81). His son, Raymond, was in my class (Class of 85). He and his second wife owned and operated it. I think her name was Deb. Unfortunately, Ray passed away about 5 years ago. Ray's mom Theresa Stilley was a bookkeeper in Garden City.

It was a Van Gogh Yellow Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building with detached 2 vehicle garage. It has Gable roof design. There are Antique Red-Bricks bricks just for the admission doors area. The way it was designed to shield from winds and cold weather as well as hot sun from coming in the glass doors. Sort of.
