Google Map. Taken in 2013. The newer one showed it was fading fast. Anyway, a skater slipping/falling? Not a great idea to use as a logo. Use a skater that skates. Seen a lot of 1940s to 1960s patches and stickers? Use the ones that they do skates or figure skates. Not someone falling down. Falling down shows a negative perspective. Perhaps that was bad omen that caused this rink decline.

Originally, it was Skate World then Bango's in Ozark, Alabama. Both have ceased operations having Bango's closed in July 2019. Bango's started in 2010 and before that, Skate World. I have no idea about that rink operations. More so with Bango's. I found out about their closing somewhere. I lost that link that says they are closed. You see, when I made the list of Alabama rinks for my site on US Rinks page, I went through quickly each rink to see if there is at least one link that tells me they are out of business like Manta, Bizapedia, etc AND no websites or unofficial page on Facebook, then it is greenlighted for me to work on those rinks. Red fonts means no information but they are non-existence. Well, for Bango's I found out they are closed but that was last month but I have no idea what happened to them.
So, I take their word for it because on Facebook, Bango's last postings were in first half of 2019, nothing afterwards.
Andy Gilland owned Bango's Skate Center.
The Interior.
The rink itself was in need of re-painted at the time because you could see undercoat of the original that was fading away. They had a red stripe about a foot away from the edge of the rink and I could see checkers on the rink. Black and White squares for that part. Clearly White Polyurethane coat was already worn out and needed to be polished and re-paint again with polyurethane coat.
The rink floor did look more like a Ice hockey rink floor without much of Roller Hockey walls and plexglass. Hey, Scotty from the USS Enterprise already invented the Transparency Aluminum already.. Ha, no, a company did in 2019. That would work for Roller Hockey. Haha.
Anyway, back to the rink, it apparently was unique with the original floor perhaps by Skate World back then. I tried to find information on that one but could not such as when it was first opened. Likely around 1984 according to Rink Time.
The walls were bold colors. Reminded me of a rink in Crossville, Tennesee. Well, this rink has part of it Black, other part was an off Orange, and little bit of Tan-like color. Very unusual mix of colors I would have to say.
Snack bar, rentals, bathrooms, admission, and eating area were at that front end of the building while rest is rink toward back wall.
Snack bar/eating area has linoleum checkers-style floor with Black and White tiles.
The Exterior.
Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled Warehouse-like Building with Bricks interior and it has Gable roof. It does look hideous from the road because it was on a narrow strip of plot and it was pretty much toward the back of the property and lower than the road itself. As you drive onto the parking lot, it slopes downward very little bit. That is a bad idea because of potential flooding as this is Deep South whereas much rain and flooding are known. It was not well designed to preserve. Back then they could have added more dirt and raised the foundation when they first built this. That way water can run off toward the back of the building onto the wilderness behind. It is not as much slope downward though. But if you look it on Google Map, you will see it is lower than that nice Red Brick Colonialism building to the left.
Clearly it is sloped because of that next door (actually cross the street on Fox Street which is a small street there as seen on the map).
The sheet metal steel siding on the wall has Pale Yellow with Red Brick brick out-built for admission and exit. It would be nice the entire front has that look since I look around the neighborhood and it is heavy on Colonialism. Apparently that region has much on that theme. Like South Beach on Miami Beach is very heavy on Art Deco and New York City with Brown-houses as well as San Francisco, California has Colorful Row houses. Developments are the same way.
There is, however, a shade that can spot the name, BANGO'S on the wall but barely. Bango's has a big logo on the wall instead. I do not know why they removed it because it was easier to see than the replacement which was the logo. Of course in 2013 already you see the missing "O" on the wall. BANG 'S. They could have repaired it.
Their street sign is very clear and one of best visual signs I can see in Google Maps. Some rinks like Oydssey Skate Center had very difficult to read because of its yellow background with Red Fonts with very small fonts for Skate Center compared to Odyssey. Well, back to Bango's. It is best with White background with Bold Red fonts. Very clear. Leave red and yellow for Mighty Moral's uniform when he shouts the name of the elder.
A paint job could have done well to cover old name and replace the fading Yellow. The logo on the wall from the street even with new photos from Google Map is not clear either. Up close you can. Leave that kind of design to letter heads or website. A better one designed could have done however, creativity is okay but continuation could have improved.
Likely it was sold recently because Weichert said it is off market.
