Roller Kingdom II 16341 US Highway 190, Covington, LA
Roller Kingdom II 16341 Highway 190, Covington, Louisiana was the second rink to the Roller Kingdom in Hammond, Louisiana. This rink was around long ago. In fact, the building has long since demolished thanks to Vintage Images.
Those images showed me in 2009 that it was demolished.
It was cross the street from a very large high school campus. It made sense for kids to walk cross the street to the rink to skate in late afternoons while parents worked. Of course it is common from 2 pm on that kids are out of school for the day and parents do not till 5pm and parents home by 6. It is a fact.
I do not know when they first opened because those images are very grainy and hard to see especially with their copywriter splash all over the images. It is not very nice of them.
Unfortunately, I do not have any other information regarding this closed rink. Really strange. Many defunct rinks in 2000s are still mentioned online but not this one. Makes you wonder.
I need your help! Needs a lot of information!
UPDATE! -- (09 February 2022).
I received an email from Angel, who was related to the family that operated this rink as well as Roller Kingdom I and other 20 rinks. Here is what she has to say.
My father, Anthony R Ardoin, built them probably 1978 and 1979/80??
My sister, owned both for awhile, Tonya Ardoin. She turned the Hammond [rink] into “The Stampede”. At some point it went down.
Roller Kingdom II did burn down. I cannot remember what year.
The floors were Pecan.
Both rinks looked similar with Covington being bigger.
We had another skating in Port Barre, Louisiana.
My Grandfather, Raeburn Ardoin built about 20 something skating rinks in Louisiana.
Hope this helps,
Sure did help more than enough, Angel. Thank you so much! You got your email from me asking more questions. Thank you again!
The Interior.
They had non-painted Pecan Wood floor which has a Janka Mar of 1820 which is stronger and harder than Hardwood Maple (which stands at 1,450).
The Exterior.
The appearance was similar to the first Roller Kingdom. However, Angel was telling me that this rink wsa bigger than the Hammond rink site.

*Historic Aerial does not give you specific location. It is a weird website that they do not let you pinpoint in the link. You have to type in the address. Besides that, their copyrights are splashed all over pictures making it very hard to see and very distracting. I do not really recommend that site though.
