Courtesy of Rainbo Skate Center. c. 2011. Noticed they had Fire Red doors? Newer photos showed they did not have that at all. I love the red color doors because they say.. you guess it. And I love how they designed the trims in each square. Unfortunately, they took out that part. I wonder why.
Courtesy of Loop Net. Noticed in newer photos, white doors. Oh drats, I love those RED doors. They renovated this one also.. they removed the lines in middle of all squares. Just like Magic Wheels, they removed it. Clearly it showed me it was same management.
Courtesy of Skaters on Four Square. Sorry I could not get any good quality photos.
Rainbo Skate Center Website home page/Facebook. Truly sad news in December 2020. Before and after.
Rainbo Skate Center 2631 U.S. 41 Alt Bypass, Clarksville, TN
Now closed, this rink, Rainbo Skate Center was located at 2631 U.S. 41 Alt Bypass in Clarksville, Tennessee.
It was opened in 1990 after it was built. This design is quite similar to two other rinks with different names especially Magic Wheels in the very same state. It may have been originally ran by the same people because it is in the same section of Tennessee- The Western section. It makes sense that 1 + 1 = 2 that this rink and Magic Wheels are the same architecturally. There is the third one that also closed too in this section but cant recalled which one. But the idea is the same-- that 1980s look with the faux mansard roof trim, Wood squares that are dark trims against Tan or Salmon paint on stucco, the doors in the middle, and the canopy. Quite the same architecturally. I call those design, the Magic Wheels Design.
Unfortunately, now with Magic Wheels sold last year and so this rink, Rainbo which is short for Rainbow, closed on December 26, 2020. They have closed because likely it was COVID Lockdown that caused this rink to close for good. It was a loss of revenues.
It is currently up for sale as of April 12, 2021 when I wrote this according to Loop Net. See link below that is in PDF (Loop Net changes their real estate listing from for sale to real estate records which eliminate a lot of information. So I had to preserve the page by adding as PDF format for permanent record.
Now, it is listed for 2 Million USD. That is quite a price but remember it is at 104 USD per square foot which is pretty average at the moment with that cost.
The Interior.
Supposedly similar to Magic Wheels design, the interior has to be the same. This is slightly smaller than the other two rinks of similar design. This being at 19,200 SF, smaller than the 22 to 24 thousand Square Feet. You can tell the exterior it is shorter lengthwise.
The Exterior.
It is Magic Wheels design very similar to Magic Wheels in Jackson, TN. Free-Span Steel Truss Stone and Brick and Stucco-Walled Warehouse - like Building. With Gable Roof with fake Mansard front for decoration.
They sat on a good corner where the highway exchange is located. A bit difficult though for the turning right because of those coming from straight wants to make a right hand turn but you have to watch out for those coming from the other highway which looked a little dangerous. The driveway to parking lot should only be at the furthest away from the exchange. it has beautiful front lawn that looked like you can put another business in front of it. They could have done that years ago to set up as a lease tenant so the rink can make more money that way.
Back then, in pre-1995ish, commercial buildings were built in this manner with large grassy yard in front as part of going "Green" but it was not thought of having satellite stores in front so you can make more profits. The owners could have thought of that on this property so they can make more money. Too late now. Unless someone reopens as a rink and make more money by leasing part of the property in front of the rink building. I recommend that so that there are many happy skaters can continue to skate!
