Originally before Ashtabula Family Roller Den, it was Nappi's Roller Den on 2255 West Avenue in Ashtabula, Ohio. This gem was behind other buildings in this huge complex area. It is part of Plaza West shopping center. It looks like the majority is the entertainment complex.
The YouTube video showed when it was uploaded and it was 10 September 2020. Apparently I believe the Great Virus Outbreak and Lockdown of 2020 may be to be blamed for the business closure. The website is still functional however, it is still closed till the state mandates say it is ok with less rules. It is going to be hard for businesses. Likely by 2025, it will be ok if the Conservatives have the White House, SCOTUS, and the Legislative branch have it their way.
I do not have dates of opening and closure of each one. The website did show fall and winter schedule. Are they for this year or was it for last year? Good question.
It was built in 1980 so I assume the rink opened in 1980 and it was last sold in 1998 then up for sale again 2020. I believe up to 1998 it was Nappi's and after that, the Ashtabula FRD.
The Interior.
It has beautiful non-painted Polyurethane coated Maple floor. I do not know what layout it was. It was part of the skating rink building with the banquet hall next door.
The Exterior.
It is a sports complex with a 34,200 Square Feet roller rink building that is Gabled Contemporary style building with a bit of Slant Roof. The other complex is 14,016 Square Feet Banquet hall that has one section very narrow and long Brick building and the big banquet hall is all Steel Walled which is matched with the Steel Walled warehouse like for the rink. They includes 140,000 Square Feet outdoor facility with 2 softball fields and 2 beach volleyball fields. It is behind another commercial building from the main road. The total amount of square footage of both buildings rack it up to 48,216 Square Feet which makes the rink building one of the largest in the world. Guptil's Arena near Albany, NY has largest rink floor! Big difference!
