Greenbriar Skating Rink/Jelly Beans Skating Rink 3850 Stone Rd. SW, Atlanta, GA. Of course, it was painted over but you can tell it is the same location at the correct address I have to make it clear for skaters when they talk about location where this was because two different sites gave wrong addresses. Yahoo Answers and Wikipedia. This is why you need Dead-Rinks to vertfy the location. Proof? Look in all three photos for the planters. Only major proof and the door to the left of the long planters is same as in the old 1970s photo. Note, the top photo from Kojak who has only photo of the exterior, so far known on the net to exist. I enhanced to provide better color since 1960s film was perhaps technicolor, not digital or 80s Kodak version. Only to sharpened the photo. No other alternations. Source: Google.

Jelly Beans Skating Rink 3850 Stone Rd. SW, Atlanta, GA
Jelly Beans Skating Rink 3850 Stone Rd. SW, Atlanta, GA
Greenbriar Skating Rink and Jelly Beans Skating Rink were actually on 3850 Stone Rd. SW, Atlanta, GA
This rink became one of famous rinks thanks to the name was shown in a movie although it was filmed at another location. The film I am referring to is "Atl." That movie had set up Jelly Beans at another location, not the real location. It was filmed at the Cascade Family Skate Rink in Adamsville, Georgia. That rink is still operational and interesting rink to visit because of its unique design. No wonder it is still operational because of its uniqueness of that facility but also it is the famous star in the movie. I provided the link to show you the difference of that place but also I highly recommend skaters to check out Cascade Family Skate Rink because of its uniqueness in architecture and the atmosphere at the rink. Well balanced lighting, the neon lights on the wall, The 1950s exterior look with supersized name Cascade sign on the top of the canopy. This place was truly one of the rarest 1950s themed architecture. That rink I must visit for sure. It looks like it is not going anywhere because of well crowded and well managed.
Back to this,... I have no information on Greenbriar but Jelly Bean was mentioned in the movie but has people saying in the Atlanta's metropolitan as this was AND STILL is the best rink around. "The Master Of All Roller Rinks" as people called this rink actually put Ben Hill where this rink was on the map for good.
Unfortunately, fame did not get them continue as a rink. Instead it became several businesses in that building including a Greek house owned, to an event center and now a community center.
However, I am getting conflicting reports of where Jelly Beans/Greenbriar was. Some said it was in Ben Hill others said in different location. Will the real location please stand up? I would appreciate with verified proof. I got the address from skating rinks list websites (see in Links page and go down to skating rink directories and they will say same thing to verify each other's location as I listed on top. It was on Stone Road, period. Wikipedia almost got it correct but someone made a correction on that page too. It said "Northside" but it was not really on Northside. It is LITERALLY on Southwest side of the city. Once again, Wikipedia made that grave mistake. No wonder your college professors said do NOT use Wikipedia as sources for Thesis, Theory, and Dissertation Reports. Use other sources. This is my proof of what they said. And the Google Map showed a proof. Look at the stone landscape pot that has bushes/trees right near the entrance door in Google Map and the real Greenbriar photo I was able to find on Facebook. It is exact same thing. It was painted over. That is your proof. Location is 3850 Stone Rd. SW, Atlanta, Georgia on the Southwest side of the City of Atlanta.
It was owned by Eddie Eugene when it was Greenbriar.
Sad note to this rink was two teens were missing and murdered that one came from this very rink when he went missing on Saturday July 31, 1979.

Hey,
I just came across your page on Greenbriar Skating Rink and wanted to confirm your information. I grew up in the neighborhood and used to go there all the time as a kid in the 70s and 80s. You are correct about the location. You are correct that it was renamed in the 80s from Greenbriar to Jellybeans. Part of the confusion is that there was a separate skating rink called Jellybeans on Roswell Road in the Buckhead area of Atlanta. I’m pretty sure it was in operation at the same time as Greenbriar for a while. At some point Greenbriar Skating Rink got renamed to Jellybeans. Maybe the owner of the other Jellybeans bought it and renamed it. I’m not sure, but I know it happened AFTER around 1981-2 which was about when I stopped going every week. When I went there it was Greenbriar, not Jellybeans.
This article mentions Dallas Austin, TLC and Jermaine Dupri hanging out there when it was Jellybeans in the late 80s: Creative Loafing
I found an Atlanta Journal-Constitution archive that mentions Jellybeans Skating Rink being on Roswell Road in Buckhead, a long way from Ben Hill. "Just for Fun: Piedmont North Carnival. The parents of Piedmont North Academy will hold a carnival from 10am - 10pm. Saturday on the 3900 block of Roswell Road near Jellybeans skating rink.”
Here’s a yahoo answers page where you can see the confusion and the various memories. The OP found the Roswell Road location in legal documents but was confused about references to the Ben Hill area. The reason is that the Roswell Jellybeans location shut down, and Greenbriar was renamed as Jellybeans. The page is no longer there since Yahoo closed the Q&A sections. People mention the original Jellybeans being where Golden Buddha restaurant is now at 3861 Roswell Road.
Here’s someone on Facebook with memories and proof of the Roswell Road Jellybeans location: SE Skate - Jellybeans was the Rockin' Rollerena on Roswell... | Facebook. Thomas Smith comments and says he worked security there in 1980-1. This is consistent with the fact that Greenbriar was still called Greenbriar at that time and had not been renamed Jellybeans yet.
Here is an interesting article from a German website that gives credit to the style of skating that came from Greenbriar/Jellybeans. It blows my mind honestly because I always thought everybody skated that way. Now I feel like some kind of pioneer lol (but I wasn’t good at it). Roller Skating Culture in Atlanta – sk8.berlin
Back to Greenbriar Skating Rink, It was called Greenbriar because Greenbriar Mall was (and still is) a short distance away and has always been the central commercial hub of the area.
Interesting background is that this part of Atlanta underwent racial integration and "white flight" during the late 1960’s. By the early 70’s the area was predominantly Black and the clientele when I went there as a child and teen in the 70s and 80s was all Black.
As for it being a bowling alley, I checked with my older sisters who were 12 and 14 when we moved to the area and they have no recollection of it being or having been a bowling alley. That doesn’t mean it never was, it just means it was almost certainly a skating rink by 1969 because they went there around then. [Perhaps way before that].
One thing to fix is that you sometimes have "Greenbrier" instead of “Greenbriar". Greenbriar with an A is correct. [Corrected].
I don’t remember taking any pictures there but I’ll check. Every time I see the inside of Cascade Skating Rink it reminds me of how Greenbriar/Jellybeans looked. Very similar style inside.
I enjoyed your website!
Take care,
JD
