Greater Southern Roller-Ice Arena was once housed at 341 Washington Avenue Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. It was also known as Greater Southern Roller Arena, same address. It is currently as Bridgeville Rollerplex.
Manta said it began in 1958. Someone emailed me today about this rink that I did ont have as on the list. It was missing from my big 4 lists from 1990s apparently because of name changed. There has to be more than just those two names I have listed in Royal Blue above right now.
But the Pennsylvania Data Base website said more specific date of registration of this business as of Monday, 3 April 1961. It must be new owner or reorganized as different format of business. Sure was a conflict. However, I trust this one because of specific date. And the website showed the filing. Please click that link and read more.
UPDATE! -- Sunday 10 April 2022.
I received this email from a J. and he explained a bit and this is how I found another name for a rink to add and am working on the profile.. You will see it is a completed profile after I said this line though. Here is what he has to say --
Hello,
I came across your page recently.
In the 70s/80s, I used to go to the Great Southern Roller-Ice Arena on Washington Rd in Bridgeville, PA. It's changed owners many times and I think it has a different name now. I've been looking for any old photos of it from the 70s/80s but no luck so far. It has some sort of outer space theme mural painted on the walls. Do you happen to have any pictures of it? I'm skimming thru you pages but haven't seen anything yet. I contacted the current owners but they don't have anything from back then.
Thanks,
J.
J. I am working on it and hopefully to find pictures. Thank you.
I searched and could not find any photos. I am still waiting for the Facebook group to allow me in as I already requested to join. This should be helpful.
LoopNet did say the name of the rink as C B & Brk Roller Ice Skating Rink. What "Brk" stands for? And that was the name of the rink at the time it was advertised or listed on that website?
UPDATE! -- 14 September 2022.
I received another email. This time some more information. Interesting read.
We always called it Bridgeville Roller & Ice Arena but I don't know if that was the proper name. I wish I had pictures to share. I skated there from the mid 60s to the early 80s. The floor was hardwood until the creek flooded and ruined the floor. They removed the wood and you then skated on cement. I loved that place, there were very few rules to follow and you could practice all your moves to get good. Whenever I went to other places to skate, people would say, you skate at Bridgeville.
The Interior.
In 1958, likely the interior floor was Maple Hardwood for skaters at the time and the other part of the building was ice. I do not know how many layers of ice. Most places are between 1 and 3.
About the floor, when the flood occurred, the Maple floor warped and had to be discarded and polished the Concrete floor to allow skaters to skate.
Currently under Rollerplex, it is RollerCourt which is very common for Inline Skate Hockey Rink. It appeared to be full NHL sized rink. It is Sky Blue. The layout is similar to NHL.

Some states allow purple paint on fence which means they even have guns on their property and have rights to shoot you. Please DO NOT attempt to enter property without permission!
For abandoned rinks, after you receive permission, do WEAR safety OSHA equipment including a safety glasses, pair of safety gloves, an orange vest or a jacket, and a construction helmet.
Thank you for understanding.
Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. I provide what information from other websites, skaters, and operators and it may end up with different results between two (or more) sources. It is not our responsible for errors we caused. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
