Evan’s Skateland West 3162 W Lake Rd, Erie, PA. Now that more like a graffiti. I personally do not like that kind of art but I am an Artist. I see a huge error there. Can you spot? I guess not. Look at the white paint runs.. It was there on purpose but the artist should have done that LAST because the brown circles was painted over the paint running. It should have been painted Brown dots first then the letterings then the white paint drips. Learn from Bob Ross. He was right, paint background first then work way toward to you. I mentioned him because I know how to paint and I mentioned for you to watch and learn how it works. Unless the artist who did this wall above thought differently. But if you see letters OVER the Brown circles, then the whites should be over the browns. Source: Google, Bob Ross, Inc.

First came was Westlake Rollercade which also was known as Westlake Skating Rink. Later it became Evan’s Skateland West 3162 W Lake Road, Erie, Pennsylvania. Then it became Presque Isle Skating and Event Center.
One thing to note, Presque appears to still operational although their Facebook says temporarily closed but they still post though. Strange! Maybe a limited operations. Will ask.
According to Dun & Bradstreet, it was opened in 1985 for Evan's Skateland West. (Was there another Evan's Skateland somewhere?) I noticed the building and it has to be built way before 1985. What rink was it before Evan's? When?
John Evans III was the operator of Evan's.
Shannon and Steve Monney Operators of Presque Isle. so were partners Israel and Nagliz Rivera. The two couples operating this rink however, it is up for sale according to this link.
The Interior.
Westlake Rollercade:
I do not know what the interior was like. But for sure the floor was wood. It appeared to be Maple. It is Rotunda according to pictures. It did look very plain with old appearance in a set of real estate photos.
Westlake Skating Rink:

Evan’s Skateland West:
I do believe some of the carry over with the designs from Evan's as evidence in photos that they had Navy Ship Gray on walls and carpets and has that Orange with the design. I felt this style is very antiquated that it feels like a century ago rather than 1990s look. That combination of Orange and Navy Ship Gray were quite a rare and odd combination even in 1990s when Orange was in. You seen a lot of that in the 1990s on snowmobiles, on NASCAR car racing especially Tony Stewart. For that driver, that was because of The Home Depot's color was featured because of Tony's sponsors. I noticed much orange here or that. Bit confusion for my hometown though because of the university orange color is quite notable. Orange and Lime Green were popular at very late 1990s and early 2000s.
It may have been a minimalist feel to the interior design at the time is quite dull today. It was a dose to phase out the wild colors of Memphis Group theme that were popular in 1980s and early 1990s.
Presque Isle Skating and Event Center: The new owners renovated some of the interior changing back to sort of Memphis Group Black lights carpeting with loops called Hoopla design. Skaters decided on that over the Mardi Gras and Party patterns for new carpet replacement in done by December 2011 when they bought the old rink that year and renovated with this new carpet. I believe the floor redone with polishing and Polyurethane coating, no paint on Maple wood floor. As wood age, the stain appears. It is shown easily in many Google photos. Although they retained the Navy Ship Gray carpeting in main area and renovated some. It was not 100 percent total renovation. They had a Burnt Orange or Red fresh paint.
The Exterior.
Westlake Rollercade/Westlake Skating Rink:
The original appearance was traditionally Red Bricks which was very common in any commerical and residential buildings in first 50/60 years of 20th Century. Even in 19th Century as well as 18th Century.
The main rink section was Segmental Arch. Likely Bow Truss but I could not tell because of the ceiling itself was lowered White ceiling panels. Likely it was Bow which is very common even in 20th Century.
Strictly that part without side expansion where the current door with the faux Mansard roof design on the front side.
Evan’s Skateland West:
From what I saw in pictures. People always expand or renovated with "cheapness" by covering up windows with plyboards, or bricks or anything. Well, it had 4 front windows and front door in the middle of the Segmental Arch section where the big sign is. They had those windows and front door at that point but it was perhaps covered up by John Evans III to modernized and expand the side of the building making new entrance.
Likely in 1985 when John Evans III bought it, expanded the side. Either him or the original owner when it was Westlake Skating because of the popularity in 1970s.
so it make the roof design I call that Baseball Cap roof design. Segmental Arch with Skirt. It is a Combination design.
The exterior wall was still Red Brick, naturally but eventually the sides were painted perhaps to hide illegal graffiti.
I love it in natural Red Brick.
Then...
Presque Isle Skating and Event Center:
They painted Red Brick with Red Brick paint. Oh Dr. Smith would say, "Oh the humanity! Oh, the pain! The pain! He would even go on with when they painted in a certain blue. I think its standard Blue. Yes, entire walls painted in that blue. What if someone who wants to buy such place in natural brick? Sorry, it would be a fortunate to remove that paint.
Still its nice with this color. It does brighten up the place and making it more modern for this kind of market. Browning of America was so 1965 to 1990. It has been Retroism ever since and the return of Googie's.
