Originally it was Mac Arthur Rollerdrome named after the World War II's U.S. General Mac Arthur who fought in the Pacific Theater then Delsea Arena at the location known at 2608 Delsea Drive in Franklinville, New Jersey. This rink was also Franklinville Skating Center and now as Sk8 47 Skating & Fun Center.
Graham Amusement Corporation owned and operated the Mac Arthur Rollerdrome. It was opened on Valentine Day, 14 February 1942. The name was chosen by the operators of the rink after a naming contest and the winner received a 25 USD war bond since this was during World War II.
In May 1954, Graham Amusement Corporation sold the rink to Lou Tennace of Ten-Ace Amusement Corporation according to titles search (Deed searches) thanks to Sk8 47 Skating & Fun Center for the information.
By May 1971, the rink was sold by Ten-Ace Amusement Corporation to Rudolph and Mary Carlo and renamed to Franklin Skating Center. It was run by three generations of the Carlo family for more than four decades.
The rink suffered a catastrophic fire in 1976 that COMPLETELY destroyed the rink.
There was a minor second fire in the rear of the rink which was repaired quickly in 1986.
Finally, Franklinville Skating Center added air conditioning was in 2000. Not even the old burned down building had air conditioning.
In the years leading up to 2016, the Carlo family decided to lease the property to Jim Ulrich, owner of Sk8 47 Skating & Fun Center, LLC.
Finally, Jim Ulrich leased the former Franklinville Skating Center in February 2016 and opened the rink on Wednesday, 22 June 2016. (officially opened on 1 July 2016) Then he purchased the rink in It is still operational. The rink property was leased shortly thereafter the purchase which allowed operation of the property as a roller skating rink to continue. Jim Ulrich purchased due to a serious legal matter that the Franklinville Skating Center Owner and Operator, Jon J. Carlo faced a serious legal issue that has to change ownership and even name.
Jim Ulrich and his rink company purchased the property and rink business on 22 February 2018 and it survived the Great Virus Lockdown.
Pre-Historically, it was Bernight's Garage that they fixed cars. From 1920's to 1942.
The Interior.
Mac Arthur Rollerdrome: Original building interior unknown. Definitely it had Maple wood floor since the era usually had wood floors to skate upon.
Delsea Arena: Original building interior unknown. Definitely it had Maple wood floor since the era usually had wood floors to skate upon.
Franklinville Skating Center: Unknown décor from 1976 however it began with a Step Log Cabin format Maple wood floor, Orange and Yellow seating in eating area from the 1970s era. But the walls were painted differently. Perhaps all Snow White walls. The Orange and Yellow were popular at the time. Even Ski-Doo, Moto-Ski, Boa-Ski, and Arctic Cat Pentera and even Johnson Outboards sported the colors at the time. (Note- the Ski-Doo link will show you the photo of the exact same sled that I owned and sold and was repaired. The owner showed me the photo of what he fixed. The cowl cracked at the time I owned because the trailer tripped over and cracked the cowl). I am sure fashions had stripes with those two colors especially jumpsuits.
Sk8 47 Skating & Fun Center: Carried over Orange and Yellow seating in eating area from the 1960s-1970s era. But the walls were painted differently.
The Exterior.
Mac Arthur Rollerdrome: Originally it was built in 1920s. The rink owner renovated from a garage to a roller rink. It had faux step front roof wall. It was Gabled roof Cinderblocks- Arena like. Originally the exterior was mutli-colored then painted some kind of White hue.
Delsea Arena: Carried over design. However, massive fire burned down.
Franklinville Skating Center: This was the rink operations when they had a fire in 1976 but the rebuilt had Cinderblock and Steel Sheet Walls warehouse like building with long Gabled roof. Original color was dark top half. It appeared to be Dark Gray. Photo is color but Dark Gray. Then they painted Royal Blue.
Sk8 47 Skating & Fun Center: Now, when they were leasing the rink, it was still Royal Blue but fading thanks to the old rink name sign were removed and you can see the sign scar showing original blue color. Then after the purchase, it was painted Fire Red but kept the side Royal Blue. I love how it is like that. Best I have seen in ages on any rinks. Red on one side with blue on the other. Glad this is sporting red on front because of another rink ruined it by removing the red and have it boring stone color for its signage at Hollydell Arena. Now, just get more permanent sign would be nice.

Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
