Skater’s Choice / Choice Arena / Choice Inline Arena / Choice Sports Arena 150 Holly Dell Dr, Sewell, NJ. The current state of the facility. This was where the roller rink was. You can see it is small. This set up was for the cheerleading team to practice and perform. Courtesy of Google Images.
Skater’s Choice / Choice Arena / Choice Inline Arena / Choice Sports Arena 150 Holly Dell Dr, Sewell, NJ. You can see what both facilities are under same management now. That would consider anti-monopoly violations. It is like if 2 different drug stores and one bought out the other, has to shut down according to the laws. OR sell off to someone else. I can name a few business histories related to this situation. Eckerd and Rite Aid and CVS Heath merger forced some closures, and Tops and Price Chopper merger that forced some spin off. Skater’s Choice was the first named facility at 150 Holly Dell Drive, Sewell, New Jersey but they had many names come and go. They became Choice Arena, even Skater's Choice Arena (saw one source), and then more common known as Choice Inline Arena and then Choice Sports Arena. But on Google Maps for 2013, it even was called South Jersey Sports Arena in its initals but the full spelling name as South Jersey Sports Complex! Finally and sadly, not a roller rink anymore. It is ICE rink now at the former Skater's Choice called Hollydell North which is merely 2 short walking blocks from Hollydell Arena. This should make roller skaters upset. I believe it. Why? Both facilities have ice rinks. Not right.
Very good description of the facility is found on Yelp. Here i copied and pasted what Jon said on Yelp in 2015 --
Unfortunately, not as many kids want to fall on their butt for hours at a time while skating in a circle so Skater's Choice - as it used to be known - had to evolve. It is now called Choice Inline Arena. The space that used to be the roller rink now houses a basketball/futsal court on one end and the home of Jersey Pride Cheer and Tumble on the other end. Sharing the entrance is what is called Court 3 - which is a full-sized roller hockey rink complete with locker rooms and everything.
In the last few years, I have only visited this facility to watch my kids play futsal. It is the home of South Jersey Futsal - which is run by Don D'Ambra. Don D'Ambra is a Philly guy who played soccer at St. Joes and later was the player/coach for the Philadelphia Kixx. He is currently head coach at St. Joes. For those that don't know - futsal is a type of soccer that is played 5v5 with a smaller ball that is 30% heavier than a regular soccer ball to limit bouncing. It is a fast paced and fun winter game that is played on a court the size of a basketball court.
The facility is fine for futsal - although the amenities are a little lacking. There is limited seating courtside that is only accessible through a very narrow walkway that may or may not be handicapped accessible. The snack bar is limited and the bathrooms serve double duty as the locker rooms for the roller hockey rink and are as smelly as you might imagine. The parking is very limited and you may need to park in the lot next door.
They need to expand parking lot for sure, and needs roof repairs. Anyway, they need to restore roller skating ON the Roller Rink. If the Roller Derby can do it, why not skaters? This is all gray area for this profile because it is still active rink yet, it is dead rink because they used to have a roller rink for skaters on the small rink. Needs to be restored and ON the NHL size.
I see a anti-monopoly laws violation in my opinion because Hollydell Arenas have another ice rink facility right down the road at 601 Hollydell Drive which is merely 2 blocks away from Skater's Choice rink! Can we complain? Maybe Roller Skaters can fund raise and purchase the Hollydell North and turn back into a rink? Just a thought. If not, get your town board meeting and cite such violations of federal laws and correct this. Otherwise, go to SEC- Security Exchange Commission, that is the federal government level. DISCLAIMER- My opinion.
The Interior.
Skater’s Choice: They had two rinks. The Hockey sized Roller Court Rink and the smaller High School Basketball court size roller rink. Regular skaters had to skate at the smaller size rink because the larger was used for Roller Hockey. Hardwood Maple floor with Polyurethane coated in Straight layout pattern similar to any basketball court.
Choice Arena: I do not see any other information but it was a name variation. Likely as a nickname for Choice Inline Arena. More information will be needed.
Choice Inline Arena: Presently two rinks. Technically, now only ONE is used for Roller Hockey. I do not see on their website as it would be for open skating session. They should. Must be they are quite busy with Roller Hockey all the time as full-time usage. The other rink,.. the smaller one is now for basketball and Futsal. This is also used for Cheerleaders squad to use by laying down mats. This is a mutli-purpose facility.
Choice Sports Arena: Same. Name variation.
Hollydell North: Now it is ICE rink. This evidently they got rid of roller rinks. I see a anti-monopoly laws violation in my opinion because they have another ice rink facility right down the road at 601 Hollydell Drive which is merely 5 blocks away from Skater's Choice rink! Can we complain? Maybe Roller Skaters can fund raise and purchase the Hollydell North and turn back into a rink? Just a thought.
The Exterior.
Skater’s Choice: I do not know what the signage and logo was like. None could be found. However, the basic idea is the building that still stands.. The big arena part appears to be warehouse like with Cinderblocks and Cinderblocks front part where the basketball court / smaller rink in more flatter Gabled roof It does appear like a rink or movie theater frontage. Very 1980s-1990s look architecture.
Choice Arena: Same building but the signage look is unknown.
Choice Inline Arena: Same building but the signage look was Red with waves on one side (front) with the main doors on the side front. I love the waves look. Makes it more "Googie" appearance. The signage background was Black with red in its logo.
Choice Sports Arena: Same building but the signage look is unknown.
South Jersey Sports Arena/Complex: It had really Vibrant Red with their very simple logo. I love this one the best compared to Hollydell North's look. Better than Choice Sports Arena's look.
Hollydell North: Terrible removal of the Googie look and smoothed it out and splatter with supersized fonts for the sign. Yes, clearly can see and it is in same Gray background with Black fonts. Not liking it at all. I love the older look. Why go for Minimalist? Stop taking the Starbuck Minimalist Cubism. Be creative! And bring back the red color! And bring back the roller rink!

Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.
Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. I provide what information from other websites, skaters, and operators and it may end up with different results between two (or more) sources. It is not our responsible for errors we caused. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
