Courtesy of Loop Net. You can see the fading logo on the wall for Dazzles. Sun bleached for sure.
Courtesy of a fan on Google. At night. Feels like 1980s.. reminds me of "Night Heat" TV show filming here but they never did.
Above two- Courtesy of Loop Net. After it was all stripped down and sold or thrown out. Real sad.
Courtesy by fans on Google. Sad to see those two pictures. Where are the skaters? And am I seeing that there was a roof leak on the left side of the bottom photo? If yes, that reminds me of same sadness with very few people like this with a damaged floor because of leaks. And yes that rink too was sold in auction. The very same rink I worked at in Mattydale. Same thing! I know why. No upkept because of lack of skaters. I remembered Empire Skates in 1983. 7 of us skaters in March 1983. Closed in June 1983.

Courtesy of ShlideTv. This is pretty sad one to see the inside. I also recommend you NOT to follow their footsteps to enter ANY abandoned buildings. They are not your property. And for your own safety. Please do ask permission FIRST.

Dazzles was the first of the two Dazzles which was at 3844 Longview Drive in Douglasville, GA Unfortunately it was also closed. This one being the first of the two Dazzles, both Dazzles had very similar architectural design as you can see in the photos. The same according to the former manager I spoke with who worked for Dazzles II that was just closed recently.
And yes, both are up for sale, Folks! Both are priced the same although the other Dazzles was sold last November for cheaper price at 600K USD but originally selling at 699K. Now, the new owner of that building is turning around and sell it at 850K because he may have seen this one and priced the same. Yes, the building and everything inside that shell are exactly the same. Kind of like a Burger King or DD or Pizza Hut would do.
Carl Couey started this Dazzles after years of running other rinks and living out of state as well. But he returned with his family and started this Dazzles of Dougasville or known as "Dazzles Douglasville 1990" which the other Dazzles was known as “Dazzles II 1991” in Fayetteville, GA.
But Carl died in 2011 leaving this rink in limbo, Dazzles Douglasville was lost to the auction block after Mr. Carl passed away in 2011. It was bought on the auction block by his nephew Jeff Couey. I do believe his intentions are to eventually reopen the Douglasville location. The remainder of the Couey Family still have Sparkles and Starlite rinks.
Unfortunately Jeff did not revitalize the rink. It was sold on August 21, 2017 for 550,000 USD. Now it is listed for 850,000 USD. It went up too fast in just under three years. And its bare inside thanks to some sneak-ins guys who videotaped this and seen it was stripped down to bare walls. No fancy carpets, no lights, speakers were put down to the floor, a wheel chair was abandoned in the middle of the floor. Only mirrored balls were still hanging and some kitchen equipment were there but no counter-top for the snack bar at all. Just a few benches there. And a banner letting skaters to know the rink is available for rent laying on the floor. Everything was stripped. Funny thing, the beautiful Virgin Hardwood Maple floor is still there!
it would have to be reduced at least 250 thousand dollars without those things inside if anyone wants to buy a rink. When they do, that same 250K is enough to buy new equipment, carpets, etc. The bank possessed the building and stripped things and sold off things for what owed on the mortgage and loans.
The building was never sold and the bank owns it according to foreclosures.com and they are trying to sell.
It was on a three acres of land.
The Interior.
Being the original, Dazzles II had similar carpets, etc. (I did Dazzles II profile first) and this is quite identical to each other. Same carpet on the wall.. Same busy carpet and repetitive too. Quite off of it.
It had Black (Blue at Dazzles II) steel rail.
To step to the rink, you had to STEP up then step down to the rink. It sounded very much a swimming pool format would do.. well, some do that. I prefer all flat. I never have been to a rink that you had to step down to the skating floor. Same format with Dazzles II.
Now, the rink itself had Virgin Hardwood Maple.
The Exterior.
This is the original and had exact same copy at Dazzles II. The difference is that at Dazzles II, it has that plastic canopy but this one did not have that canopy and instead of that, the trim on top from end to end was Leaf-Grass Green.
Exact same number of doors that are all windowless. Both locations were a bit confusion which is enter and which is exit. I would prefer window doors. It would be more welcoming with window doors rather than steel doors. But if that is for security reason, that is fine but there are shatter proof windows you know that?
The frontage is lay the same way even right down tot he floor that the blue-print was exact the same. Must be they used tracing paper at the time to draw up design for the Fayetteville location back in the late 1980s as AutoCAD was just new. Although CAD were around since 1960s but that would be major corporations like GM and Ford and Chrysler had AutoCAD for automobile design and drafting. Most firms by 1990s had AutoCAD but this was in late 1980s.
This rink is about 70 Square Feet bigger than the Dazzles II rink.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A Floor: Virgin Hardwood Maple. Floor Layout: LOG
Building Size: 24,750 SF Built: 1989 Demolished: Still standing.
Type of Building: Free Span Steel Truss Steel Walled (ear) Cinder-block Warehouse-like Building.
Roof: Gable with Faux walls hiding the Gable roof.
Acres: 3.00 Acres.
Operated: 1990 to 2011 and 2011 to 2017.
Reason for Closure: Seizure to foreclosed and sold on auction in 2011 then, went to auction again in 2017 but no one bought it. Bank is processing to sell.
Wanted: Information regarding why never reopened? And exact dates of open and closing.
Anyone has pictures and/or information please let me know at [email protected]. Thank you.
