Coliseum Roller Rink Ashland at Bancroft, Toledo, OH
Coliseum Roller Rink Ashland at Bancroft, Toledo, Ohio was another of the similar rink to the other Coliseum that was on Summit Avenue. To see about that Coliseum, check Coliseum Roller Rink at 2929 Summit Avenue, Toledo, Ohio for details. This is entirely different location and likely this was a franchise. Like you got all the fast food restaurant and dollar stores all over the same town you live in. Same idea.
Well, this rink opened on 13 July 1905 according to WTOL 11. It was said to be the largest rink in Ohio at the time. In 1900s, most rinks were small but this was consider large with this size-- 175 Feet by 85 Feet. That is just 20 feet shy of a standard NHL size if you want to compare. This was a large rink in scale.
The end of this rink is unknown.
The Interior.
Likely Maple wood, non-painted. had some kind of protection. Unknown layout of wood.
The Exterior.
It was a Segmental Roof Free-Span Trusses Brick building which appeared to be like an arena. The only photograph so far I have was that this place in an old newspaper clipping seen on WTOL 11. Unfortunately it was not a good clipping because of how the reporter and her editor developed it. Not good. Anyone have photos and even that newspaper article?
It was showing that it was being built and first cross Steel Trusses were lay on the walls. It was about 30 percent done. Back then, they built them fast.
