Courtesy of Bean Group. Over 100 years old building that was up for sale recently but temporarily withdrawn sale after spending over 1750 days on the market. Which means about 5 years on the market. Made sense from 2015 to 2020. Was the COVID the reason for withdrawn the market? I love brick building and turn into NYC-style lofts. I would include the old theater as roller rink for myself if I owned that place. Hahaha. Oh well.
Courtesy of Winter Palace Theater fund raising website. In 2010s, the theater was in this shape having concerts with simple banquet hall chairs and few fans in attendance. Noticed on the sides are the baloncies.
Courtesy of Winter Palace Theater Facebook page. Up close of the theater stage where a band is getting ready to play that evening. You noticed the floor. Ouch. That floor needs TLC!

Winter Palace Roller Rink 108 Cabot Street, Holyoke, MA
Winter Palace Roller Rink had a very unusual name. Winter usually associated with ice therefore it would be ice skating, not roller but that is what they named the roller skating rink back then.
Not much information though about roller skating. I do not have information regarding who was original rink owner although had owners of later years including E. C. Aldrich who came in 1950 and then William F. Figgie took over management in 1956. Nothing much at all. It joined RSROA in 1956.
I attempted to contact the building owner and it is unavailable. The website for the fund raising for the theater is very dated. Dates to the newest date-- 2015. And Yelp said the owner of the building, the Paper City Brewery has been closed for good.
I could not get any further information. It is said to be around early 1940s to maybe end of 1950s. But not sure. Currently if you see on Google Map, the building has been abandoned. There are a few broken windows as I can see on the building.
You see the building has been owned by the owners of Paper City Brewery since 1994 for a cheap price of 45,000 USD. Wow, That was cheap at the time! They did have the building recently for sale but withdrawn. It was for like 700,000 USD. Huge income! But the neighborhood as the brewery's patrons said in Yelp... no.
The Interior.
It was an old theater. I believe it was a stage theater. The theater closed sometime in past then they attempted to reopen and ran for a while in perhaps between 1990s and 2015. After that, it was empty.
I do not know what the original theater look like.
The renovation has ceased after 2015 due to some reasons. The website for the theater project seemed to be stalled the same way on Facebook. Nothing is occurring after 2015. Apparently the project has collapsed.
The Exterior.
This 1896 built building has five stories high with exposed Red-Brick Bricks inside and out. Very industrial look if people use it today. In 1940s to end of 1950s, roller skating rink was being used on the floor of the theater on ground floor. The theater took up two stories and rest including top floors were other uses. At one time, a local micro-brewery owned the building and attempted to fund raise to turn the theater into its glorious look.
The building sits by the creek or canal. Yelpers said the neighborhood is quite dangerous and high crime occurred. Is this the reason why the microbrewery closed down because of bad neighborhood? It is possible.
The building has 61,500 Square Feet with 0.47 Acres. small land but large square feet. Because this is a
But that building is beautiful and great for having visual arts and performing arts there if the City of Boston overtakes the neighborhood and start cleaning up by getting rid of criminals in the neighborhood. Please, Boston, think about that.
You cannot donate because the website is 6 years old not updated. It apparently may have failed to raise capital needed for restoration and because of crimes occurred in the neighborhood.
