Photo courtesy of My Omaha Obsession. Taken in 1952. Noticed something missing? The door to the rink! Likely hidden behind that telephone pole! Must be the photographer did not think about that. Or did take one but was lost.
ADs shown in Benson High News (newspaper) of Omaha, Nebraska on December 16, 1949 and January 20, 1950 respectively.
Sticker courtesy of My Omaha Obsession. This one was in Blue and there was red (see next photo). The red one was from a seller on Ebay.
West Farnam Roller Rink, 4016 Farnam Street, Omaha, NE
West Farmnam Roller Rink was in Omaha, Nebraska. It was built and opened in 1930 and ran for a while but it did not say when it was closed.
It was in a two story building on a hill on Farnam Street with the front that appeared to have no entry in this old Black-n-White photo! Hmm. This is all I have for this rink to have such frontage without a front door! Must have side door to the right that was cut off by a telephone pole.
Apparently the basement was rather deep because it was a deep downgrade of this hill where this rink was. Then front facade was rebuilt into the former rink building apparently maybe 1960s as a small medical center but now, that spot has been cleared and has park-like setting for this huge Clarkson sign sitting where the rink used to be as seen on Google Map. The architecture style for that new building built was more likely in 1960s because of the style and chrome trims it had. Google Map in 2011 showed that same building as seen on this website called My Omaha Obsession. Click here. The side can tell you it appeared vintage. But it does not look like it matched to the rink building.
Google Maps which has updated this year to allow you to compare different era showed that the very same building has been demolished. Now it is all clear and of course, that city needs a skating rink!
I have no idea what the rink interior was like however, the building appeared to be two storys. It is possible they had two floors of activities. But I am not sure.
It does not look big thanks to two women walking by in that old picture taken in 1950. Length-wise is not known.
Skaters before or after skating would stop by at the coffee shop which was cross the street or go up a little bit (behind where the photographer took, was to go to the pharmacy to buy a soda fountain or soda bottle or even an ice cream shake and listen to Buddy Holly, Elvis, or Little Richard playing on the radio in the 1950s.
The building in 2014 was up for sale. Apparently the medical center relocated. Demolished in 2017.
It had brick built with Combination Roof (Gable with cut off up-front, and skirt roof)
