Likely photo courtesy of Google Map. Noticed the gym is still there (behind the sign).
Photo courtesy of Greeley History. Noticed the garden! Most rinks have NO garden up front! This sure did have garden. Likely this was taken before it was converted to ice rink because of a sign up front in the garden saying, "Home of the Renegades Roller Derby Team." This was before or after their failed attempt to purchase Warnoco North Roller Rink because of the deed. Compare the photo above and the below, they remodeled the path from parking lot to the door. Photo taken in 2007 apparently the photo above was one of last ones. Updated garden with wooden garden stakes.
Photo originally from Google Map capture off of FRRP. (resnipped). Likely taken in early 2000s before renovated frontage. Automobile appeared to be very late 1990s to early 2000s- looked like a Suburu.
Warnoco West Roller Rink, 5807 20th St, Greeley, Colorado
For Warnoco North Roller Rink, click the link.
This was the second location for Warrack Norcross to own a skating rink in same town but on western part of Greeley in Colorado.
On several websites and an article online, they confused the timeline with Warnoco North. This is the ONLY site that correctly separate history of the Sall's Gardens/Warnoco North.
Now, we can focus on here. It was not like the north location at all which was unique and anitque (I believe the Warnoco North should have been preserved as historic landmark while the Warnoco West is modern.
It has gable roof warehouse style rink with roof more slant or low pitch degree of roof. It does appear looking like some office warehouse according to the photos on the net. It has excellent landscape up front. Perhaps the nicest landscape at a roller rink ever seen.
It became the largest rink in Northern Colorado with 175 by 80 feet (14,000 SF) which is just slightly smaller than a NHL rink (200 X 85) and much smaller than Olympic rink of 200 X 100). It is larger than the original Warnoco North.
Warnoco West was opened in 1980 and by 1988, they added a miniature golf course (18 holes) called, Hole in the West.
Unfortunately for this newer rink, in 2006, it closed. That was ten years after Warnoco North closed. I have a feeling why the family did ot want Warnoco North to be a rink actually because of declining attendance at that rink and did not want to lose business to the West location But they sure did. Likely children like home entertainment (video gaming, Netflixing, etc), and other interests. Perhaps it was also because many skaters were upset that the North location would never be reopened as a rink so it was a silent protest that no one would go to the West location? It can happen.
The rink actually closed in 2004 but reopened as ice rink but again closed for good in 2006. Now a print shop.
There are no interior photos. Just exterior and Google Map showed it was painted over and its a print shop according to the 1950s style sign up front on 20th Street. Glad the town's roller derby team has a home somewhere in town.
