Valdez Roller Rink Valdez, AK
This is most rare information and I received this from a daughter of the owners of a dead rink. She gave me tons of information. But for this one small.
It was opened in 1896 and ran till 1913 according to her so I looked up and only I found was the rink closed due to a fire in 1915. Not sure if that was the one and the same. Date is very close so I would say it is until anyone comes forward to correct me. it may have been closed and abandoned or up for sale during those 2 years then it was a loss worth 2,000 USD. (51,798.42 USD in 2021). That is cheap. Must be damaged to PART of the building.
The fire that destroyed the rink also destroyed the business district. Many businesses were burned. Even a bank, a shipping company, a ship company, and even boats and ships burned because this town according to investigators said it had not been raining during the summer and water tide were low and dry which made wood dry and it may have been caused by something that the investigators could not pin point what. But blame on heat and dry air causing it. Similar to what California and the west coast and even other countries facing dry weather often gets. However, they believe it began with this...Started in the Frye-Bruhn Building, Which was Undergoing Repairs. That building was worth half a million US Dollars.
