Universal Skating Center, 866 South Goldenrod Road, Orlando, FL
The name may be bit confusing because of the other Universal in Orlando. The Universal Studio Them Park, the world's second largest.
The interior was very plain looking and looks large. It had antiqued Maple wood floor with much two tone colors on the floor. Fan style turns and the walls were white. It had advertising on the wall. That is all I have available thanks to Loopnet which usually remove most pictures after it was sold. Also in that single picture, it has a score board for roller hockey. It made sense because of the rails wrapped around the big rink. It appeared to be a full hockey rink floor. Even Olympic sized. However, I am not sure.
The side walls appeared very late 1980s or early 1990s with Light Teal or Light Blue with that zig zag and straight lines. The interior looks so bright and appeared very much like a school gym rather than a roller rink. I think the new owners in 2015 when it was sold, dropped the roller hockey which is a huge mistake because it is popular along with roller derby. Remember this is my opinion.
Now as Astro Skate, it is dark interior with much space-themed murals such as planets, asteroids, stars, etc. And black ceiling.
Rink Size: N/A Floor: Maple, clear coated polyurethane. Floor Layout: FAN
Building Size: 30,000 SF. Built in 1979 (According to Astro Skate but Loopnet says 1981).
Operated: 1979/81 to May 18, 2015
Reason for Closure: N/A Sold to Astro Skate (currently operating)
Wanted: Information regarding photos of interior back before Astro Skate took over. Exact year of built and open. Reasons for closure.
