Tiger Roller Rink 747 East Chester Street, Rt 9W, Kingston, NY
Tiger Roller Rink 747 East Chester Street, Route 9W, Kingston, New York. They were operational at one time. I found out about this rink from someone by the name of Lance. Here is what he said. Unfortunately, I could not find more information about the rink. No address. But likely it may have been at 747 East Chester Street, Rt 9W, Kingston, New York. I am not sure. That was once Tiger Racquet Fitness & Exercise Center Inc.
Then it became MAC Fitness and MAC Park. Since 2017, it is the new relocated Honda Dealership.
Profile Update -- 06 June 2022
There are a number of different fitness/gym names for this place. Even Gold's Gym. Maybe Sundown because the style of the buildings was very much a Sundown gym. I recalled 5 Sundown gyms in Central NY including Liverpool, Fairmount, East Syracuse, Dewitt, and I believe in Cicero as well. It is quite their trademark appearance.
Gold's Gym bought out Sundown Health and Racquet Club sometimes in late 1980s I believe and this is where the Gold's gym was at this former rink. I will need to research more about those fitness centers at that location.
Having said, the design was similar. However, this location where the rink was had three building, not two. It was a bigger facility.
BUT I am not sure about the location.
UPDATE! -- 06 June 2022.
My assessment was correct where exactly the rink was before I got Lance's email today. I made the profile yesterday.
Here is what he said as a follow up. If you want to read the original, read a few lines below his email here.
I wish I had more information for you, but it was so long ago (sometime around 1984 or 1985, give or take a year or two) that the memories are faint. It was on East Chester St. in Kingston, NY. It was a fitness club, a tennis club, and a roller skating rink - perhaps at different times, or perhaps in different parts of the same complex. I know I took tennis lessons there as a kid, and they had lots of indoor tennis courts in one huge room. I wonder if they just took down the nets and repurposed that room on weekends to be a rink. But it had video games and a DJ booth, so that would have taken some work every week to get it set up for skating.
Not many search results on Google for Tiger Racket Club (which was the name when I took tennis lessons there) in Kingston, but one gave a Gold's Gym address (743 East Chester St, Kingston, NY), which sounds familiar. I think it became a Gold's Gym for a while after it ceased to be Tiger. But I don't remember when the rink closed down or when the whole Tiger Fitness complex became Gold's Gym.
I'm fortunate enough that one of the other rinks near where I grew up is still functional. I haven't been there since the mid 80s, but now that we've had this email exchange,
I know this wasn't all that helpful for you, but that's all I have as far as memories are concerned. It was sure fun for me to reminisce, so thanks again for the work on the site!

This is the FIRST email from Lance...
But I got this email from someone who said I am missing out a rink and to add this.
Great site! I used to love roller skating when I was a kid and spent a fair amount of time at one of the rinks on your list, Spinning Wheels in Catskill, NY.
Another place I also used to visit, which is no longer in business but is not (yet) on your list is Tiger Roller Rink in Kingston, NY. It would belong in the UPSTATE NEW YORK INCLUDING HUDSON VALLEY, CAPITAL DISTRICT, AND ADIRONDACKS section. My high school had some kind of a deal back in the day where you could get a bus ride from our school in Saugerties, NY to the roller rink, a set of rental skates, and a night at the rink (always Friday night, I believe) for a discounted price.
In case you don't want to rely on my word alone, here are a couple of web links which mention its existence:
Kingston Happening
"I was always pretty athletic, but could never ever get the hang of roller skating, even though I worked at the Tiger Roller Rink, a former Kingston business."
Obituary - Theresa Madden
"Theresa then held careers at Ulster Savings Bank and Tiger Roller Rink and Fitness Center in Kingston, NY."
Thanks for the hard work on your site!

Wow, thank you Lance for your help to add a rink. It was not listed because of the lists I have did not have this rink. This helps.
Thank you!
