Thunderskate, 440 NW Peacock Blvd, Port St. Lucie, Florida
Thunderskate as it sounded like a catchy name as it would be fast skating. Sounded like a speed team name or a Roller Derby. But it was a rink in Port St. Lucie in Florida. It was a very modern looking skating rink facility. The appearance on the outside looked like an office building. But originally a skating rink. Susan Martin may have been the founder and operator of the rink.
It was opened some time ago but not known when it was first opened. There are no public records found at the moment but will be updated when I can. Although the building was built in 1998. It may not have been operational long.
The exterior had business or medical office appearance with two stories of windows. There was a canopy for skaters to wait under the hot sun or the rain. You could not drive under there though because it was all sidewalk that area. It was first business in that building. It had Grey color exterior with windows. Looked so modern business/medical look.
The interior, it is sad there is no information or photograph of the facility on its website or any other except for Loopnet which I found it. It was a 29,675 SF building with 14,800 Sf poured concrete rink with epoxy finishing floor. The facility had 20,050 SF of Open Space with No Columns with ceilings of around 21 to 24 feet in height. This is from Loopnet.
They had skate rental, snack bar, eating area, and arcade involved. However, there are no photos. The rink closed up shop in 2005 selling to Elks Lodge to be come Elks Lodge Warehouse. This is why they had three garage doors there on the side or rear. They must have added that. However, they did not last very long either! It was sold to another entertainment company, unfortunately, not a roller rink but a trapeze place called Flying Panda, Extreme Air Sports. Trapeze sports is gaining popular in many places. Then next tenant is a top ranking fastest growing company on INC. magazine.
Elk Lodge had light blue fonts and street number on the building and canopy respectively but with Flying Panda, they painted half of the building and canopy in black with white or silver fonts.
