First was Walnut Valley Skate Center Then Peacock Roller Rink which the owner of that Rink, Mr. Peacock kept the business but sold his skating rink then Interskate 77 till tax trouble then it was sold to the final owners of The Rink Family Fun Zone.
Having said, that we do not know names of the rinks in between or since 1947. I have one rink name that was there, it was called, Walnut Valley Skate Center.
Peacock Roller Rink when the business, and building, were owned and operated for 34 years by Dwayne Peacock.
In 1986 the business was purchased by Charles and Carolyn Verbeck, and operated under the same name. In 2001, Keith Anglemyer bought the business and changed the name to Interskate 77. The business was closed in February 2015 for non-payment of taxes.
Owners Bob and Christina Goodrum purchased the business in 2016, after it had closed the year before for nonpayment of taxes under a previous owner. The skating rink had been open almost continuously since 1947, with several different owners and name changes along the way. A sign painted on the south wall of The Rink said it had been “rolling on Main Street since 1956.”
Even though the Goodrums have purchased the business, Peacock remains the owner of the building and is responsible for the exterior of the structure.
The Goodrums made many updates before reopening the rink, including a redone skating floor and renovated concession area, according to a 2016 news article. The Rink also offered other activities, including bubble soccer and Nerf wars.
The Goodrums have been busy with interior updates, including new lighting and "plenty of cleaning,
The skate floor has been resurfaced and the concession area renovated in 2016. Concessions offered will include hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, pretzels, candy, chips, soda, Gatorade and bottled water.
They have purchased 100 pairs of brand-new skates and completely refurbished another 40 pairs.
The Goodrums closed The Rink for good on Sunday January 3, 2021 without giving public reason why they closed.
The Interior:
For the Rink, it has Sky Blue Polyurethane coated over Maple. Likely it was Log since I can see where the light shining. I am not sure. Anyone? It is small place and pretty much the walls were White with 2 fans in the rear. That was common for roller rinks of yesteryear before most rinks now have HVAC system.
Likely it was plain Maple wood floor before the Rink has the floor. It was heavily renovated by the Goodrums in 2016.
The Exterior.
It does appear like a storefront on the main street. Literally ON Main Street. It has a ramp for ADA accessibility, But before it became The Rink, they had very simple ramp up. The newer one seemly raised the floor a bit. the building Looked like it has 2 stories but no. It is a fake 2nd floor without any actual windows. It does looked like it was boarded up. It is a faux Spanish style storefront look. No, because the roof itself is Arched-curved. It is antique style Red-Bricks Bricks building with some windows on the side especially toward front. The front does have windows but some are covered with signs. Other part is all cemented up wall. This is The Rink incarnation look. Not so much with Interskate 77. With big exception was the sidewalk and ramp. It seem to be higher in the The Rink generation than with Interskate 77 according to Google Map.
