The Palace Roller Rink, Port Washington Road at Capital Drive, Milwaukee WI
The Palace Roller Rink was established by Wisconsin Skate University's skating social and instructional club which had a huge rink, an arcade and a dance floor. They had enough room for 2000 skaters. That sound like a huge complex they opened. I do not know if the Palace Roller Rink was opened on campus or off campus. They opened for the need of their college aged students to be able to roller skate at a place.
The rink was opened in 1980. Apparently it lasted about 10 to 13 years because now they are associated with Incredi-Roll skating rink at 10928 W Oklahoma Ave, West Allis, Wisconsin which is still operational in a Lockhard-designed "Skate Country" building. Was that rink a Skate Country? Perhaps it was under the Iowa Skate Country company. Another article another time. Incredi-Roll opened in 1993. So, apparently the appearance of the building with brick and the roofline, it was designed and built in 1970s. Has to be a "Skate Country"-isque rink there.
Anyway, about the Palace, that was different location. It was at Port Washington Road at Capital Drive. Google Map showed it is not there anymore. Likely demolished and a new building was built as a warehouse there on the corner. Cross the street was a school bus property that grass is now growing.. South of that, both are all residences.
I don't see any photos either! Nothing. Anybody?
