Google Map. Rink today. Sign is gone, thin paint of building. Must be already sold and new owner painted?
Tallahassee Skate Inn, 1368 Blountstown Hwy, Tallahassee, FL
This rink had a cute name with the word, Inn as part of the name. Catchy. Apparently this rink looked successful right to the very end. I do not know why they closed for good. The building was built in 1973 and the rink was opened in same year, 1973. Must be they quickly built the rink.
It was opened by another rink owner until it was sold to Doug Draughon (according to Linkedin) in 2008. Doug ran it till its closure on September 30, 2017. The building was sold to a business.
The building had blue and white stripes vertically and gave that carnival tent wall feel. It had a huge sign saying SKATE vertically on a skate. It was all neon with a standard sign below it. After it was sold, you can see it was thin coated white over the blue giving it a ghostly Blue-White look according to Google Map taken in 2018.
The interior was beautifully made. The original look is unknown back in the 1960s to 1990s. Although with the remodeling, it had glow-in-the-dark carpet, games, snack bar, and skate rental. The rink had beautiful Swimming Pool Ice Blue Water color on concrete, a necessity in Florida because of Hurricane Alley the entire State of Florida faces.
The Facebook page showed tons of pictures of skaters. I recognized many of same people in those photos. I take Doug is the beard guy with a button down shirt with the logo on. It would be nice to have a hand on that! They had a Thanks for the Memories Party which is a farewell party with two cakes. Looked yummy! Did not save me one! Boohoo. Haha. Joking! This seemed to be a good rink with good management that I would have liked to skate there or even own it! Unfortunately it closed for good in 2017. Was sold according to Loopnet. Now it is an auto parts distribution warehouse.
