The former Xtreme Outfitters sporting store. Prior to that was Sunshine Skate Center. The rink floor remained and now it is Champs Club which opened in November 2019. Courtesy: Champs Club.

Sunshine Skate Center 2112 Sandy Ln., Laurel, MS
Champs Club 2110 Sandy Ln., Laurel, MS Currently Operating.
Champs Club 2110 Sandy Ln., Laurel, MS Currently Operating.
First was Sunshine Skate Center on 2112 Sandy Lane in Laurel, Mississippi. Later, it became Champs Club but the address is 2110 Sandy Lane. Likely they may have fixed the address but it is same location. In between those two rinks, it was Xtreme Outfitters, a sporting goods store. The reason for the address is because of the newer building that was a chiropractor office was located in front of the rink. That was a new built.
That is interesting. Sunshine Skate Center had its humble beginning in 1979 (Bizapedia but 1987 in Manta). First, the built was built in 1978 then opened. Closing, I do not know. I even checked Xtreme Outfitters but no avail either. I have no opening date for them.
Skating rink at this location returned as Champs Club on November 1, 2019. It is still operational. A romantic ocurrance at the rink was on May 3, 2021 that a real gentleman was on his knee wtth his skates on and proposed to a female skater who was his girlfriend, now fiancé. Congratulations!
The Interior.
If Champs Club has the interior similar to Sunshine's then it is the same. Non-painted clear coated Maple floor. I can see its age. Yes it is old rink floor that was built in 1978. Already over 40 years old and soon it would need a replacement because Maple floor life is 50 years. I can tell with the floor in the photo. First one I see are a set of photographs at Champs Club Facebook page happens to be a proposal for marriage by a young couple. First of all, before I go on, I want to say Congratulations! They got engaged on May 3rd, 2021. May God bless them with many years of marriage!
It has exposed Steel trusses and support on the ceiling, no panels.
The Exterior.
It is a Free-Span Steel Trusses Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building with Gable roof. But I believe the exterior was redone because it looked so modern and clean when it was Xtreme Outfitters sporting store. Anyone know what it looked like back then.
