Courtesy of Google Map. Pretty much almost unchanged since 1958 for the landscape. However, some changes. Already demolished as you can see in photo. The Dark Metallic shed remains. It was built after the original extension of the main building was built to the east of the building which was later demolished. Photos below tells that story.
Courtesy of Armles. It is gone. Torn down. Better have it torn down for safety because it was negligent.
Stars & Stripes Family Roller Center 1213 Pima St. E., Gila Bend, AZ
Stars & Stripes Family Roller Center was a mysterious rink at this supposedly location: 1213 East Pima Street, Gila Bend, Arizona. I looked it up on maps and all pinpoint to mostly desert floor and two small buildings but no way they were in shape as a roller rink. Second of all, the name with "Family Roller Center" sounded so modern, at least since 1980s. No photos of rink and this is the address I got and it failed to correct the address. Anyone know about this rink?
My question is why they pointed to an empty land? All listed below belongs to the one with this address thanks to those real estate websites. If it was, it was that abandoned building you saw in Google Map above.
The Interior.
N/A.
The Exterior.
It was a Gable roof building. I could not make out what kind of truss but it looked like they had posts in middle column of the building. It did not look big at all. There were no cars to compare to size for top view. But to me, it does look small. The Historical Aerials showed in 1961 photo that it was that same sized building with an outbuilt next to it attached. But the newer aerial photo from Google Map showed it was already demolished and another one build a few feet away from the original spot.
By the look of it, it may have had a 1950s Modernism look but it was so decaying in the Google Map of 2011 so apparently it was long gone long time. Desert gets decaying pretty fast. I got this rink name off of one of those 1990s list of rinks. So, it was already gone in 1990s apparently because of the bad shape of this building in 2011. About 15 years decaying fast. The building was demolished and cleaned up and only left was the concrete floor. The building next to it.. still stands but in bad shape. Was built in 1958.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: Concrete. Floor Layout: Standard.
Building Size: N/A. Built: 1958. Demolished: N/A.
Type of Building: Steel Truss Steel-Walled Shack? - like Building.
Roof: Gable.
Acres: 3.03 Acres.
Operated: 1958 to 1990s.
Reason for Closure: N/A.
Wanted: Information regarding actual date of open, closed, why closed, size of rink. Also photos.
Anyone has pictures and/or information please let me know at [email protected]. Thank you.
