There were several names for this rink at 210 Commerce Drive, Lagrange, Ohio, the Starlite Family Skate Center / Starlite Roller Rink / Starlite Triple-T Roller Rink were having one thing in common, Starlite.
According to the local newspapers on 22 March 1981, it was Katy and Paul Wallace the managers of Starlite Triple-T Roller Rink.
The registration was proven to be dated on 23 January 1981 done by Donald G. Bartoto and Eileen J. Bartoto, (likely his spouse). The building was built in 1981. Must be they registered to start building up a business plan, at the same time the building was being built and buy necessary needs. It was perhaps started to build by 1980 that it was opened in February 1984.
From what I read on the net, sounds like they had change of ownerships. Maybe at least three times because of the names changes slightly. Starlite Triple - T Roller Rink began then it was sold to someone else an then again during those times, name changed.
A skater commented from Lorrain County Forum --
The original owners sold the rink when they were to old to run it anymore. The new owners never put the love or money that the previous owners did. They did not upkeep the cement floor, the skates, not a thing. I had went to a birthday party there before they closed and I had to go and pick TRASH off the floor so the kids did not fall and the place was being heated by torpedo heaters. I grew up their and it is a shame my kids could not.
On another note, years ago my family did try and open a community center and was turned down. We wanted it open before school for ALL ages and after, along with weekends. We were not allowed to build. We tried the proper channels and was told that LaGrange did not need this type of place, it only attracted bad.
Another person mentioned reason for closing in the same forum --
It [was] shut down because of mistreatment of the building.
The same owners of Country Skateland (Pittsfield and Medina [now as Medina Skateland]) owned it.
People stopped going because of the conditions and they could not stay open.
That is sad what the owners of Starlite Family Skate Center/Starlite Roller Rink was doing. Mistreating about the building as if they were not taking care of the building and the rink business and the rink itself. Trash were all over the floor even on the rink. Sound familiar. The heaters were on blast giving too much heat, not caring for people so that caused people to alienated the rink by not going there due to the conditions.
Now it is a septic services company at the location.
The Interior.
I do not know what floor it was but the size of the place was given 2 different sizes. In Loop Net, it was said to be 13,956 SF but in Zillow, it said to be 14,192 SF. SF as in Square Feet. It was not much differences. About 150 Square feet differences. Someone did the math a little off. I believe one did the measurement inside as a relator or architect did as the other did the measurement on the outside as a surveyor would do.
The Exterior.
