Google Maps, can you spot the old name still "ghosting"?
All except for top two photos are courtesy of Julie Thompson/ReMax and Comet Skates. Very 1970s feel in those photos! No wonder! It was built in 1975 giving that mid-70s feel.
Starlite Skate, 351 E 20th St, Mountain Grove, MO
Comet Skates, 351 East 20th St. Mountain Grove, MO
Starlite Skate was a rink just off the highway 60 in Mountain Grove, Missouri. First opened on August 3rd, 1995 and closed in 2002 and that is when Comet Skates opened up. The interior I am not sure if it retains the same as Starlite Skate Center. The exterior, on the other hand, it was easily can be seen with the old look that the name, Starlite was painted on top part of the Metalic Silver steel roof platform. Apparently to fade that away because it is now called Comet Skates. They may have redone on the outside but the inside, I am not sure if it is painted to change their appearance. Ricky L. Wiyrick registered with the state on August 3, 1995 and ran till it was closed and sold.
It is now Comet Skates, according to Facebook, which began in 2002.
UPDATE! Comet Skates is up for sale as of November 2019 according to Loopnet. With this website, I am able to capture images of interior! It appeared to be very 1970s/country look. The rink itself has Maple wood for sure. And so much walls are made with wood! And the floor off the rink is linoleum tiles. One area has excellent chairs all padded! It looked more like an office business or business headquarters. This rink is clearly very unusual. The other thing is that they had was a wooden half walls around the rink even shortened the rink to include perhaps a practice floor and/or dance floor. The floor is Fan style layout.
This facility feels very countryish themed interior. No wonder because it is in Missouri! The Mid-West! The rink is up for sale at 350,000 USD in November 2009.
