Springfield Skate World, 3188 Gateway Loop, Springfield, OR
This was another in a franchise of Skate World with the 1960s style globe on it and the exterior design of the building is quite similar to what you saw with Skate Odyssey in Medford. Likely Skate Odyssey was once a Skate World. The pebbles on the wall with post like on the outside and the building extension is quite like the Skate World in Hillsboro. Must be their standard of style like what Burger King has theirs and Walmart has theirs.
This confirms that all of those rinks-Springfield, Hillsboro, Skate Odyssey in Medford, and likely Klamath Falls were all similar in design. The usual pebbles as wall decor on the outside and the Deep Red and Burnt Orange carpets on the walls with Black stripes dividing the sections of the walls.
This rink was opened in 1976 (according to Manta), the Bicentennial Celebration year of American Revolution. But according to owners as said on YouTube, 1969 (49 years). This is why they have had that look. One of the first of the franchises of Skate World in Oregon.
They are currently up for lease although their website is down and their Facebook still have pictures. Likely they are closed because of no website and no banner. Likely they shut down in 2018 but I need confirmation. There were still vehicles parked as of May 2018 on Google Map.
The floor is Maple wood coated with Grey Concrete Polyurethane coat upon it with that recognizable company standard wall interior colors of Red and Burnt Orange upon it. See Skate World Hillsboro for comparison and comparative on its design. See quite similar?
Need photos of the rink without skaters. Quite a bit with the skaters there.
Skate World is still operational itself but not at that location anymore. They are now renting a gym. See 13 KVAL website. They are now operating in Eugene, Oregon location.
Rink Size: N/A Floor: Concrete Grey Polyurethane coated Maple. Floor Layout: Standard
Building Size: 26,320 SF Built: 1976
Roof: Flat with extended section also Flat.
Operated: 1976 (according to Manta) but according to owners, 1969 to Friday, September 7, 2018
Reason for Closure: The owner of the building wants to kick out the Skate World and put something else in that building. The building owners are separate and different owners than the owners of Skate World. Having said, the rink owners will search for a new location. They are still in operation though but this is about the location that is closed. There is a Go-Fund-Me to raise money but from what I see. Needs a lot of prayers to raise that money.
Check gofundme for more details.
Wanted: Information regarding exactly when they first opened. Photos without people!
