Hard to tell, the second photo is areal view of the Quonset Hut style building that has a lot of sheet metal ribs as you can can see. The rest of the building has two different roofs. One for the rink the other as church.
Spinning Wheels Skate Center, 111 E Haertel St, Portage, WI
This old fashioned looking rink wsa in business before it became City Skate Center. It has that true classic Quonset Hut building for the rink as the front part as standard flat roof building. It is sitting extremely closely to a residential house next door. Too close!
This rink exterior is white but the interior rather appeared to be dark according to a SINGLE photo I found under as Spinning Wheels Skate Center. But it has bunch of people in that single photo.
Oddly, I could not find any new updated look for the current City Skate Center that the current owner owns the former Spinning Wheels Skate Center. However, it does how how modern their appearance in the snack bar area. I do not know why they showed pictures of the snack bar area. Beautiful colors. I am a fan of green color and I see they changed from 2000s popular color Lime Green with Grey walls into Standard Blue walls that are popular in late 2010s.
I love the green! Oh well.
The rink has Maple wood floor. I cannot tell how the layout looks but the Quonset Hut roof has curved interior ceiling that are dark colored. Maybe too dark. With colored tube lights on the wall-ceiling sides.
The rink was sold to a church which set up as a non-profit Christian skating ministry in 2015. The Kasten Family has sold Spinning Wheels Roller Skating Center on May 18, 2016 after operating the rink for 43 and half years. They ran since late 1972.
The rink closed in 2016 for 5 weeks for renovations and transactions to complete then reopened as current City Skate Center - Portage. I encourage you please visit City Skate Center-Portage! God bless you! And God bless this church!
