Spinning Wheels Roller Rink 171 E. 7th Avenue, Chico, CA. It was demolished and turned into a medical center parking lot.
Spinning Wheels Roller Rink 171 E. 7th Avenue, Chico, CA. Chico State Wildcat Newspaper, Thursday March 11, 1965, p. 7. They just renovated at the time which apparently they were opened for a few years. A skate fan who wrote me gave me this ad in email and said there were quite a bit of ads from 1940s to 1970s. Spinning Wheels Roller Rink 171 E. 7th Avenue, Chico, CA
Spinning Wheels Roller Rink was located in the north side of the 100s block of East Avenue, just off the Esplanade. The business was owned and operated by Ollie Roberts (dates of ownership is unknown because of 1940s to 2010s is quite long).
They repeated the same ad weekly in the Chico State Wildcat newspaper, a college newspaper published by students and staff. The marketing for this rink was clear to attract college age students to skate. Remember back then for some that colleges had NCAA roller skating figure and couple skating teams.
But also many individuals at college age would be skating to compete in nationals and world.
It was up for sale from June 1984 to 1985. Sold and it became a temple in 1986. Then closed for good.
The Interior.
The interior back in 1940s to 1970s are unknown but only one photo this fan send me I cannot post because it is 4 child-age skaters in the photo and kind of in the way of the photograph I wanted to see-- the entire rink.
This was more recently photo the fan send me. It showed very Miami Vice themed colors and look. White Background with Turquoise Blue and Fuchsia Pink. I can image them playing the Miami Vice theme song in this rink! Haha.
The Exterior.
Since I do not see any photos of the rink back then before the demolish, I have no idea what it was like. Today I see it is an orthopedic clinic. Google Map can be wrong. Could have been that long building kitty corner on the corner where North State Imaging used to be. That medical office closed according to Google Map.
Older Google Map finally showed a picture of an old white building cross the street and I believe that is where it was. If that was the case, that was Free-Span Steel Truss White Cinderblock-Walled Warehouse - like Building with Gable roof. It had a fake frontage and rear walls to hide the real Gable roof appearance. It was shown in 2012 but gone in 2017. Likely closed before 2012.

We do not endorse such illegal activities including breaking and entry of former rinks, malls, abandoned buildings, etc. Please always obey laws and regulations and property owner's signs. Some states allow purple paint on fence which means they even have guns on their property and have rights to shoot you. Please DO NOT attempt to enter property without permission!

All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
