Courtesy of Google Map, and Mark Falso with enchanted, cleaned up and straightened photograph. This was Spencer's Roller Rink. And no, not that Spencer's from the TV series, Spencer's For Hire. haha.
Spencer’s Roller Rink 916 Harlow Avenue, Griffin, GA
Spencer’s Roller Rink was a rink at 916 Harlow Avenue, Griffin, Georgia. They closed for good on December 16, 2006. I do not see any other information prior to its closing, just it is closed such as said on Four Square, and Yelp. It was sold on February 17, 2010 for 350,000 USD. The value has declined. It is 272,000 USD value now. Looks like they are selling this building for this Non-denomination Charismatic church.
Realty Trac might have a typo saying it was built in 1900. Yes, the year 1900. No way this style building was built at the time. Usually it is after 1955ish. I would say 1960s or 1970s but it is hard to tell what decade for such steel walled warehouse style building. Anyone?
The rink was opened in 1982. I do not have photos to see what it was like inside. They ran from 1982 to December 2006.
Side note, just kitty corner from the rink is an actual drive-in restaurant! It was perfect to go hand in hand with that drive-in and the rink. Sadly the rink is no more and it is a church. At least spiritually, your soul is rolling skating for God! Amen.
The Interior:
N/A
The Exterior.
It was a tan colored steel-sheet metal walls with Brown trims by the time they closed. Interesting that they have a gated fence for second half of the parking lot toward side and back. Crimes must be bit high in the neighborhood. According to Realty Trac, it is high risk.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: N/A. Floor Layout: N/A.
Building Size: 10,500. Built: 1900 (I believe its an error). Demolished: Still standing, as a church but was recently sold.
Type of Building: Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled Warehouse-like Building.
Roof: Gable.
Acres: 1.90 Acres.
Operated: 1982 to December 16, 2006.
Reason for Closure: N/A.
Wanted: Information regarding photos, exact date of open, why closed? Size of rink?
Anyone has pictures and/or information please let me know at [email protected]. Thank you.
