SpinNations Skating Center (Current)
This series of skating rinks Ran through several decades since 1977. First came was Congress Skate, then Southland and later, Fantasy Skate. Finally it became Sensations or known as SpinSations. Currently, it is SpinNations Skating Center. Anyway, Southland was once a rink under this name since Friday, February 17, 1978 which apparently Congress Skate was short lived. This was opened during the height of Roller Disco. Apparently that is what they were aiming for to open for that reason. Unfortunately it was short lived for Roller Disco but Southland survived that storm until they closed and sold to Must be incorporated or sold in 1983 according to Bizapedia. Under Rocco S. Sarley and his wife, Joanna who operated from June 13, 1983 by filing with the state that date. However, it did not say when it stopped operating under this name. It was under Southland Lanes, Inc. which was also involved with bowling lanes.
There are no photos of each rink that would help identify its existence and appearance of each rink. Not need the present rink though.
But back then, the exterior and interior may have been the Browning of America look as well as interior. The interior had bunch of lines in Tan and Brown tones. Quite asymmetrical with lines on the wall. The floor was none other than Maple wood, clear coated, with special coating. I do not have much photos of the rink itself but a little helped. Although I like to see more pictures that would be helpful especially with out skaters around.
The interior design was quite modern. Very clean. Wall to wall carpet up to the ceiling! Of course stripes. And not too much crazy disco lights upon the ceiling. Just quite a bit of diamond balls. It was very clean looking. Someone on Facebook said that the rink floor was just done just prior to the photos were taken for the post card. It was for a postcard. It clearly showed how shining it was. It appeared to be cemented. I am not sure.
