Slapshot Skate Center Inc, 555 Blues Lake Pkwy, Rolla, MO
(Now known as The Zone--still operational)
The name reminded you and I of a certain Paul Newman movie that was filmed here in Syracuse, NY back in the 1970s. And it was not roller skating movie. It was ICE skating hockey in AHL level.
Anyway! This rink originally was called Slapshot Skate Center. Must be referenced to the movie because slapshot is a slang for hockey. Maybe they had Ice rink before? Maybe roller skating hockey team housed at 555 Blues Lake Parkway in Rolla, MO? I do not know. All I get referred to The Zone which is now operating as you read this.
This rink is set out in the country side. It has a very clean modern facility with a gable roof and canopy to drive through to drop off skaters or pick up skaters. It is a nice looking but the Google Map showed in off season. The street level was taken in January 2017! All brown and no green leaves. Sure, it blended so well with the tan colored warehouse style building.
I have no idea what the rink looked like before it became the Zone. It also had another name, Rollaskate Zone. Likely it was one and the same. But for Slapshot? I am not sure if it was same owner rebooted the rink or new owner? Again, no matter what previous name a current operating rink it was, it will still be listed in this site. According to Yelp, the rink was opened in 2004. Was the Slapshot operational before 2004? What?
The rink...the internal I am not sure but likely it is spacious. The current owner may have added so many games, tropical theme with faux palm trees, Caribbean-Bahamian themed building with a little Polynesian Tiki to it. It is more than just a roller rink now. It is more of an entertainment center with several activities there. I would love to see the before it became the Zone. Any photos of the original rink? I would appreciate it as well as size of rink, building, reason for closure of original rink, etc.
The Zone as I can see in the photos are very good. This is one of highly recommended by Yelpers because of the environment there as well as good management. It is one of best I seen so far by observation online. This is one of the rinks I should go visit. And make a YouTube Episode about it.
The Zone I highly recommend owners, and managements from any skating rinks.. even ice rinks too take notice of the Zone because of patrons gave high remarks and excellent interior design and theme. I love tropical theme myself and wear a lot of Hawaiian shirts, I would fit with this rink well. Haha.
All owners and managers should visit the Zone and see why they are successful in this and get their own rinks updated and provide excellent customer service and presentation. Both are important key to successful business model.
