Skyline Rollarena 999 Cardiff Street, San Diego, CA
This rink on Cardiff Street in San Diego, California was one known as Skyline Rollarena. This rink was operating back in like around mid-Century till maybe 1970s or early 1980s. I have no information so far but a fan said in her email to me today that she met her husband in 1975 and they are celebrating more than 45 years of marriage. Well, Congrats!
Anyone know more about this rink?
It is currently a thrift store. Building may have been torn down and built as it is today in that photograph above.
UPDATE! -- 09 March 2022.
I received an email from a B.N. who wrote me this email. More information on this rink.
Hi Mark,
I was talking to a friend yesterday about Skyline Roller Rink, then found your site last night and the mementos you had photos of. You brought back some great memories for me, just thought I'd share a few with you.....
I'm 62 and grew up in Spring Valley, which borders the San Diego Skyline neighborhood. Circa 1971-1975 or so, we'd head up Jamacha Rd and make the left onto Cardiff with great excitement as we pulled into the Skyline Roller Rink parking lot. Our parents would drop us off when we were younger, usually for the Saturday skating session. Later, someone's older sister could drive us and we'd do the Friday night skate (ended at Midnight). Favorite memories are of doing the limbo and skating under the limbo pole for some kind of prize and doing the Hokey Pokey, complete with loud skate stomping. Also, dreaming of being in the Roller Derby as we skated round the rink was great fun.
In the later 70's and early 80's, we'd go to Aquarius Roller Arena in La Mesa, on La Mesa Blvd- an old Food Basket Grocery store turned roller rink. It was there for quite a while.
We always rented our skates, as my beloved and well used skates at home were the old fashioned kind you strapped/clipped on your shoes!
My parents also had great memories of doing couples dancing on roller skates, to Big Band music in 1940's Detroit. Thanks for keeping roller rink memories alive!
Sincerely,
B.N.
Thank you so much B.N.! Now I have another rink to add! Hehee. Any more info on that rink?
