Courtesy of Google Map. July 2019.
Courtesy of Skateworld fan on Skateworld Fan page. Taken in winter which was best view without much tree leaves blocking. Seeing winter.. BRRR! Beautiful picture though!
Courtesy of Loop Net. I take that large empty floor in the original section was where the skating rink. If it was to be back. I would renovated making a new door entrance in the new chevron section including snack bar, etc. Take out offices in the front and in between those two section of the building and you have a larger rink! there, one can dream! Haha.
Skateworld 70 Cascade Boulevard, Milford, CT
"Skateworld Orange, CT"
"Skateworld Orange, CT"
Skateworld was at 70 Cascade Boulevard in Milford, Connecticut which also was in Orange, Connecticut. Several lists I used from 1990s said it was also in Orange, Connecticut. I had to be sure on Google Map. Yes, right on the line by the building. The one and the same. This is why you do not see two Skateworlds on the list because they were one and the same within that town line. The photo was proved by a Skateworld skater who skated there showed a picture of that rink in Milford was one and same in Orange, Connecticut.
You heard it here FIRST, skate fans of Dead-Rinks!
There is no other Skateworld in that state (especially not in Orange because it is already in Milford. Well, this rink building was built in 1979 so likely Skateworld was opened that year because of the timing of the Modern Golden Era of Roller Skating or Roller Disco.
The photos showed how much happiness those skaters have in 1980s. Woo, their hair! Haha.
The Interior.
Hard to tell with photographs of skaters back in 1970s and 1980s on their Facebook fan page but it showed that Dunkin' Donuts color combination-- DD Orange and DD Purple on the wall especially seen with a photo of skaters hanging out where skate rental booth was at.
The floor I could not see because fans took pictures with their Polaroid's or Kodaks of their friends, not the exterior and not the roller rink floor like many do today with nice sharp digital can do.
The Exterior.
It was a small factory like building that housed the rink which later perhaps became a small factory or business or even a warehouse. What was kind of weird was the air conditioning equipment and venting outside was funneling making the place look more factory like. The frontage showed very 1960s-80s appearance with simple design. I am not sure how it was like in 1970s and 80s because more recent photos showed windows in front and glass doors and even on side. It does make it look like naturally built with the building in 1979 but I am not sure. Unless fans tell me so. From what I see, looks like the frontage was redone in some time later, perhaps after the rink closed because the style looked so 1990s or newer. The front faked the roofline. It is actually Gable roof. The other part of the building perhaps was built after 1979. Likely also after the rink closed, the new owners wanted their expansion. I do know what business because they sold the building in 2020 according to Loop Net. Likely was a technical business.
Likely it was 25,000 SF because the additional building would be bringing up total to 35,120 Square Feet. That is more than 10,000 SF added.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: Said to be wood but what kind? Maple? Floor Layout: N/A.
Building Size: 25,000 SF. Built: N/A. Demolished: Still standing. Had expansion.
Type of Building: Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled with Concrete frontage storefront factory - like Building.
Roof: Gable.
Acres: 2.0400 Acres.
Operated: Likely 1979 to 1999 (?).
Reason for Closure: N/A.
Wanted: Information regarding actual dates of open/closed, why closed, size of rink, rink materials. Also photos.
Anyone has pictures and/or information please let me know at [email protected]. Thank you.
