Courtesy of Jeremiah Watson / Skateland Skating Center / Google. Taken in 2017. Many beautiful pictures taken. Very much described what the rink was like. Those colors for the seat. Very 1960s/1970s colors for early 1980s look. Avocado Green, Burnet Sienna (orange), and Rust (red). Yes, those cubes are for shoes skaters owns and they can put it there. Seemly no room for jackets to put in with and never ever put purses/bags there! The horrors! This is old fashioned what they used to do with shoes. This was from 1981 on with late 1960s colors.

Skateworld Family Skating Center or known as Skateworld before it became Skateland Skating Center on 301 Lockard N., Blytheville, AR. The spelling changed. I am not sure if it was same owner changed name or was it sold. According to Rink Time, it says Skateland Skating Center opened in 1985. The look of the building is common I see in Arkansas and a few other states with that brick and steel sheet metal walls outside of the rink. It is similar in architectural design to the defunct rink called Skate World in West Memphis, Arkansas.
I included this because Skateworld of Blytheville because it was listed in one of the main 5 lists I use. Makes sense?
It might have been a dead name for this active rink. One thing, Skateland Skating Center has a Facebook page that appeared to be defunct because of no photograph in banner and in the circle. It only listed the Christmas skating session twice in that same month. Has it been closed since that December of 2019? Nothing about safety for COVID coverages and cleaning on there either. Not even on their Skateland Skating Center website either! I contacted them by message them on FB but they are not replying back yet. It is a wait and see. Skateland might be dead rink too.
It appeared to be dead rink because it is up for sale already on Cryie Leike website, a real estate company. It did not say it has been sold.
The Interior.
Since it was opened in 1985, it featured popular 1950s to 1970s wood panel walls. It was still there even in more recent photos by the current owner of the rink showing what the interior is like. They did good job to take all pictures that I need to see what it is like inside.
It has Clear Polyurethane coated Maple wood floor in Log Cabin format.
It is very colorful inside with 1970s/1980s colors, not neon though. It is mixed colors. The dinette benches have Orange and Avocado Green colors. Is that very 1970s look? Yes, sure is. I had a car in that green color back in 1980s. It was a 1975 Dodge. Anyway, back to this. The wall around the rink was in Sky or Baby Blue with Snow White color on the top of it. They have boxes, not lockers, for skaters to put their shoes and coats away. No locks. It is classic lockers they used in pre-Disco era. Likely this means the rink was opened in 1970s. All pointed to that rather than 1985. I remember 1985 that it was popular Emerald Green and two kinds of stain, clear wood or dark stain. Or Chocolate Brown with Emerald Green or similar colors. Red cars were popular too as well as White. On other hand, neon colors were popular among teens.
The carpet I see is very faded and looks 30 plus years old! It is, er, was, Maroon Red the same as the High Wire Spool seating. Red. That is very 1980s look. The reason I said was because it was pretty much faded from the onset of abuses by skates steamrolled on it plus walking around with shoes and no shoes on. It showed me this place has not been changed literally. Not talking about updating rinks and people complained about that. No, this is truly time-still that they kept the rink interior design intact. Yes, literally. Never had updated. Maybe that rug in 1985-ish and that is it.
What I like to bring positive side is that the floor looks great for so many years. Looked well care and may have done sanding and refinished the wood floor. That is important part. And the benches and tables looks good after more than 30 years.
Clearly they are trying to keep as it is that time of 1980s rather than updating to 2020s. They could have updated to have a retroism in that rink by buying right paints, materials, carpets to be very much like 1980s for 2020s look. A few rinks does that. If 1950s theme diners have retroism, they are highly successful because they knew how to make it look 1950s. One of my favorite diners here in my hometown retains 1950s feel inside. Checkered floors, Betty Bebop dolls around.. Chrome trims, 1950s themed benches and tables and chairs, etc. Even servers wear closely to 1950s. They opened in 1990s I believe.
The Exterior.
Common exterior design with Yellowish Brown Bricks wrap around with Yellow Steel Sheet metal walls, with the large font size for the name of the rink. Currently it is for Skateland. They sits on a lonely side of the road with farmlands surrounded the property as all other commercial buildings are built cross the street. Having said, this is genius for the rink because they are easy to spot for parents or skaters themselves to drive to rather than a little attempt to find it on the other side. When I saw the map, I joked and said hey, why not expand maybe 20 times bigger! Hee hee. That is the feel you have for the rink when you see the map or when you are driving up to the rink. I am quite creative and this is how I saw it it can occur. Like I did with Sports-O-Rama for its expansion it never were.
The founders did right with choosing this spot because it really stood out. Of course the sign helped to show drivers the way in.
