Courtesy of Google Map. Noticed it was Skateworks before it became Hot Skates.
Skateworks: A Family Entertainment FUN Center 1716 Whitehead Rd, Woodlawn, MD
Hot Skates 1716 Whitehead Rd, Woodlawn, MD (Still operational but building up for sale)
United Skates of America Hot Skates 1716 Whitehead Rd, Woodlawn, MD
Originally Skateworks was the rink at 1716 Whitehead Road in Woodlawn, MD. This rink likely opened in 1960 because that was when the building was first built and opened for business that year. But it was totally renovated in 1980. Likely that was when United Skates of America Hot Skates came along. I could not verify that.
And of course, the building is up for sale at Hot Skates in 2019 according to Loopnet (as of 5 March 2020). The fate for Hot Skates is unknown but hopefully they stay in business! But on Loopnet, it is showing that they are selling entire building but half of the building is empty because it is an office on the other half of the building (facing highway side) while the rink is on street side.
I do not have any photos of the rink in the 1960s to 1980s. It is pretty much updated in there and they kept updated again more recently according to Hot Skates Facebook page.
But currently, Hot Skates are quite modern in its appearance inside however, the outside they updated very little. Very basic on outside.
According to Loopnet, the ENTIRE building is rentable. Does this means even Hot Skates will have to close? I pray not! Poor skaters, where they will skate!?
I do not want to put negative news on here but there was a case likely put Skateworks out of business and then Hot Skates opened up in 2011 or 2012. That news I found in a newspaper in WaPo reported a terrible news.
The Interior.
As Skateworks, the appearance was unknown due to several renovations by Hot Skates/United Skates of America.
The Exterior.
Original colors of walls are unknown but currently are white. Originally under Hot Skates were all Whites. But more recent times, they added Blue trims with newer canopy with the name.
It is a split business building.
