Skater's Playground 3403 Moss St., Lafayette, LA
Skater's Playground was a rather unusual name for a skating rink at 3403 Moss St., Lafayette, Louisiana. It is now a prep school. OR is it? Controversial issues about the school. You will see in links so I am not going to talk about that. It is there.
Anyway, about the rink, it opened in early 1979 at the height of Roller Disco Era. and was operated / owned by Dianne T. Tanner until May 20, 1983 when Maxine V. Thibodeaux took over and likely till 2015.
Interesting...the building was up for sale in January 16, 2019 and was sold to the owners of the school but Loop Net updated on August 24, 2020. Apparently the process of closing the sale was quite long or was the school unable to occupy and someone else took over? According to the school website, it retains old address and dated 2015. They have not updated their website since that year!
This is the very school that began the national college admission scandal investigation that the wealthy parents were caught including celebrities!
I know, I know you want to focus on the rink, but the controversy is involved with the school which includes the rink itself.
The Interior.
N/A.
The Exterior.
It sure does look like an old 1950s style school look or even church look. Red Bricks, windows from ground to ceiling only in the center, with doors on the left with a canopy that does not really match with the Gable roof. They could have had roof to match with. If they did, it would have look better.
They painted after 2008 according to Google Map because I see in 2013, it was painted in Van Gogh/Spanish Yellow. That pretty much ruined the beauty of the bricks. If next owner wanted natural brick, its no good because of the paint.
UNLESS it was ruined by kids who spray painted graffiti on it. Terrible.
But I think they just spray painted over anyway.
