YouTube video courtesy of KMTV 3 News Now. Wow, this Skate Daze rink sure is speechless. It reminds me of another rink exactly similar art work in Florida that is a dead rink already. The news segment went by too fast and I could not get right that the tent rink was Skateland?

Skateland Skate Center, 7308 Lakeland Ave N., Brooklyn Park, MN
Cheap Skate Roller Center, 7308 Lakeland Ave N., Brooklyn Park, MN
All three were actually at one location on 7308 Lakeland Ave North in Brooklyn Park, MN. First, it was Skateland Skate Center. It was also known as Skateland Skate Center North because there was Skateland Skate Center South somewhere.
It was seemly a popular destination for skaters for about ten years starting in 1978 as Skateland Skate Center. North was added perhaps later. Did they have another rink in the South somewhere? Perhaps.
Another post on Facebook said it was even opened before 1978 registration by the owner (See Bizapedia). Anybody know when exactly it was opened?
But they closed up in 1978-ish according to Skateland skaters on their Facebook Fan page. Then Cheap Skate took over and really changed the interior. Originally inside, as Skateland, they had wooden floor but Cheap Skate painted the wood floor into White and Blue roller floor.
I am not sure about the murals if they had changed between both rinks but the last one it showed a car. Currently occupied a furniture store retain the floor and the murals on the wall. That is all left of the rink. Would there be another life as a rink someday if the store moves out? Always think possible! Nothing is impossible. Never know! Some rinks like this one retains the floor and the murals. One other rink in the Dakotas is the same way. It is now a thrift store. Another rink in another state I cant recall now (try making this page as 650th rink I listed) as similar that they kept the floor and the wall.
Skateland was pretty much more formal because the staff wore white shirts, red vests, and black ties. Shades of a movie theater usher would wear (I wore like that in 1987-88 under USA Cinemas aka Cinemas National) chain when they were around at the time in my hometown. I am impressed with this rink retaining the old tradition of ushers in pre-1960s era in rinks.
The exterior was all Bricks. It had some Whites with Browns and Reds. Nice combination of colors. I like it. It was unique. The roof was Flat.
Interior. Bit harder for me to evaluate because it was 1980s film skaters took. Always remember that the 1980s films were based on grainy brown film and chemicals they processed at the time. Today digital is sharper and better using blue tint if developed into photographs if printed.
Back to the subject. The interior wall colors were Red, Orange, and Yellow. They were common colors of the 1970s and 1980s. Kind of Captain Marvel's colors. (Mind you, this is DC/Fawcett. Not Timely Comics/Disney). It had zazzy look on the wall. Strong energy mood which was good to encourage skaters to skate more!
Some of the half walls were bricks the same style as it was on the outside of the building.
Someone said about the car on the mural... Perhaps it was every teen's and children's dream to drive a car but were not of age and used the other quads-roller skating instead of driving that car.
Another photo showed it was Black and Miami Pink but really, the way the photo came out, it has to be Red on the half-wall made with Cinderblocks and they wrapped that design all around the rink on the wall. Black on top section of the half-walls. There was a huge starburst lights on the ceiling with diamond ball in middle of it. The Black would then be outlines on one end showing it appeared to be one-point perspective as if it was going up hill from the rink to the ceiling.
Of course, it had Yellow and Orange as well. Straight horizontal lines around right up to that end wall and it points up.
They had ball-shaped hanging pendant lights. Very 1970s look.
The Ladies and Gents signs above the restrooms were quite a retro in the 1970s which was rare because retro was not kicked in till 1992-ish to 2010. The whole thing. The font, the skater who was skinny. This clearly showed it was very 1950s look.
Of course, they had snack bar, store, skate rental and video games arcade as well.
The Skateland skaters would have their annual reunion at Skate Daze. See video above. Skate Daze looks so cool and reminded me of another rink down in Florida that was closed. Exactly same style of murals and perhaps the floor as well (Sheets, not studs).
