All except for top 2 photos are courtesy of Skateland Recreation Center. Uh oh! Somebody left a couple of bags and two cell phones on the table! Tsk tsk. There are lockers to put those away. Please folks, put them away, not on the table. Tables are used for eating, not leaving items there.
Uh oh, bad boys whata ya gonna do? No, that was a K-9 training workshop at the rink with many K-9 dogs and their human counterparts. I believe they were training on how to spot drugs in roller rinks. I remember there was a K-9 way back in early 1980s. Many had beginning around that time. They came because of a student I know was trouble. Yeah, he got caught as I heard. BUT I am not sure if that reliable source though. They checked lockers by sniffing at lockers like that K-9 was doing.

Skateland Recreation Center 25334 W Eames St, Channahon, IL
Skateland Recreation Center was held at 25334 W Eames St, Channahon, Illinois. The Channahon Park District operated the rink as a government owned skating rink. It is right next door to Channahon Lanes, a bowling alley.
I do not know when it began But the Channahon Park District assumed operations in 1982. I will get more details when I hear back from them. If any of you know more about this, place like the dates, and who operated before the district, let me know, please.
Because of COVID shut down in March 2020, it lost money for sure. However, that was not the reason for its closure, it was because the rink only made profit of 20,000 USD annually which is far less needed money for repairs for 40 years plus old building.
They are waiting for a judge to approve the sale but likely will. This will be updated.
The Interior.
Very large rink with THREE starburst lights on the ceiling and floor appeared to be concrete with Off White. I am not sure. Very clean metallic lockers. I love the look of that because it shows very clean. A fresh look on the metal and not a paint color.
The Exterior.
Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building with Gable roof. It sits on 2.27 acres. I like the sign. Looks like a welcome to town sign or a fancy residential development sign. But it was Skateland Recreation Center sign.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: N/A. Floor Layout: N/A.
Building Size: 12,000 SF. Built: 1982. Demolished: N/A.
Type of Building: Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building.
Roof: Gable
Acres: 2.27 acres.
Operated: (Overall)-- 1982 to 2021 (March 2020 due to Covid but sold later).
Reason for Closure: Not enough profit to maintain updating the building, selling can get money for pool renovations..
Wanted: Information regarding exact dates of open/closed, why closed, size of rink, rink materials. Also photos. Anyone knows or have photos, please let me know by emailing at [email protected]. Thank you.
