Skateland was the original followed by Skate Zone and the final, The Fun Zone which was at 1850 S US Hwy 301, Jesup, GA Skateland began in 1984 but they went out of business. Then there was Skate Zone which is harder for me to find info. But as for The Fun Zone, I see several things for sale on their Facebook account and no posts after that year 2018. Did they closed? I send a messenger to them on Facebook. They even have a website and nothing mentioned about COVID lockdowns and temporary closure due to the lockdown. In my judgement, they are closed for good since 2018 but left everything running. Anyone?
At one time perhaps when Skateland first opened, they owned six acres of land next door to the rink and the open canopy as well. They had numerous of entertainment according to The Fun Place with Putt Putt®, and more including billiards, pingpong, and mini-arcade. The open canopy might have been the mini-golf course.
During The Fun Place, they may have added the thrift store next door in this huge long gable building.
Julian Jackson owned Skateland while The Fun Place owner was Ronnie Deloach.
The Interior.
I do not know what it appeared in the past but more recent times, it shows very colorful on walls. School Bus Yellow, Fire Engine Red, Royal Blue, and Green....bright and bold. It shows very friendly and happy place for families as this rink is very family oriented and the owners are Christians.
They have Christmas lights style lights on the ceiling above the Blue Polyurethane Coated Concrete rink floor. The walls has murals especially having realistic pictures of animals that are perhaps vinyl decals on the wall. Then there is other kinds of murals but very clean and very simple family oriented facility. More so aimed to children.
What I really like the place had truly cushioned seating! Not that laminated booths you find at your favorite fast food restaurant but this one has vinyl seating cushions for more comfort to rest. Awesome idea. Problem is that skates itself can rip those vinyls if you cross your legs or they put skates down on the seat not thinking and can rip because the trucks on the skates and bolts are metals on skates. Therefore, it would not work. Ironically, in the 1950s, rinks never had those kind of seating, only diners and drive-ins restaurants had them. Rink owners understood that it could rip leather or vinyl or anything plastic as well. But nevertheless, I love what they did with the seating at this rink. I see photos and so many were feeling so comfortable sitting there.
They had old school style lockers all in Gray color. This means you have to have your own locks or rent one for 5 dollars (money back when returned).
The Exterior.
Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled Warehouse-like Building with Gable Free-Span Steel Truss Canopy. It has narrow vertical windows. I can see the front yard has a simple kiddie ride which appeared to be like a plane type of ride you find at a field days. Then I see which I am not sure looked like snowmobiles sitting on the grass. It hardly snow enough down in southern Georgia to have snowmobiles! I might be mistaken. it appeared to be sitting without any tracks and skis but I can see headlight and cowl sitting there.
The building is Tan color.
